Biogenesis of spliceosomal small nuclear ribonucleoproteins

WIREs RNA, 2011
AbstractVirtually, all eukaryotic mRNAs are synthesized as precursor molecules that need to be extensively processed in order to serve as a blueprint for proteins. The three most prevalent processing steps are the capping reaction at the 5′‐end, the removal of intervening sequences by splicing, and the formation of poly (A)‐tails at the 3′‐end of the ...

Small nuclear ribonucleoprotein polypeptides in rat sperm

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Comparative Biochemistry, 1992
1. Immunoblot analysis of rat sperm head proteins revealed the presence of polypeptides recognized by anti-Sm serum obtained from patients with systemic lupus erythematosus. 2. Two of these polypeptides have molecular weights of 26,000 and 15,000 and they were identified as small nuclear ribonucleoprotein components present in other rat tissues.

Structure and assembly of the spliceosomal small nuclear ribonucleoprotein particles

Current Opinion in Structural Biology, 1999
The spliceosome is a macromolecular assembly that carries out the excision of introns from nuclear pre-mRNAs. It consists of four large RNA-protein complexes, called the U1, U2, U4/U6 and U5 small nuclear ribonucleoproteins (snRNPs), and many protein factors.

A subset of small nuclear ribonucleoprotein particle antigens is a component of the nuclear matrix

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1982
Abstract We have assessed whether antigenic proteins associated with small nuclear ribonucleoprotein particles (snRNP) are associated with the nuclear matrix. Immunofluorescence studies showed that a subset of these particles (those reactive with anti-Sm antisera) were associated with the nuclear matrix, while a different set of particles (those ...

Isolation of small nuclear ribonucleoprotein polypeptides

1990
Publisher Summary This chapter describes the biochemical and immunochemical isolation of the small nuclear ribonucleoprotein (snRNP) particles involved in RNA processing. While the snRNPs have been readily amenable to isolation, the individual protein species have not.
