Copy Number of Human Ribosomal Genes With Aging: Unchanged Mean, but Narrowed Range and Decreased Variance in Elderly Group

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2018
Introduction: The multi-copied genes coding for the human 18, 5.8, and 28S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) are located in five pairs of acrocentric chromosomes forming so-called rDNA.

Replication of Ribosomal DNA in Xenopus laevis [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Biochemistry, 1981
The study of the localization of the replication origins of rDNA in Xenopus laevis has been approached by two different methods. 1. The DNA of X. laevis larvae was fractionated by CsCl gradient centrifugation in bulk and ribosomal DNA and examined in the electron microscope.

Phylogenetic analysis of Polystigma and its relationship to Phyllachorales

open access: yesPhytopathologia Mediterranea, 2015
Polystigma amygdalinum, which causes red leaf blotch of almond, is one of the few fungal plant pathogens to remain a taxonomic enigma, primarily because it has resisted cultivation and causes almond leaf blotch only in restricted regions of the world. To

Organization and expression analysis of 5S and 45S ribosomal DNA clusters in autotetraploid Carassius auratus

open access: yesBMC Ecology and Evolution, 2021
Background Autotetraploid Carassius auratus (4n = 200, RRRR) (abbreviated as 4nRR) is derived from whole genome duplication of Carassius auratus red var. (2n = 100, RR) (abbreviated as RCC).

Unveiling cryptic species diversity of flowering plants: successful biological species identification of Asian Mitella using nuclear ribosomal DNA sequences

open access: yesBMC Evolutionary Biology, 2009
Background Although DNA sequence analysis is becoming a powerful tool for identifying species, it is not easy to assess whether the observed genetic disparity corresponds to reproductive isolation.

Regulation of ribosomal DNA transcription by insulin [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Physiology-Cell Physiology, 1998
The experiments reported here used 3T6-Swiss albino mouse fibroblasts and H4-II-E-C3 rat hepatoma cells as model systems to examine the mechanism(s) through which insulin regulates rDNA transcription. Serum starvation of 3T6 cells for 72 h resulted in a marked reduction in rDNA transcription.

Salt Effects on the Thermodynamics of a Frameshifting RNA Pseudoknot under Tension [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Because of the potential link between -1 programmed ribosomal frameshifting and response of a pseudoknot (PK) RNA to force, a number of single molecule pulling experiments have been performed on PKs to decipher the mechanism of programmed ribosomal frameshifting.

Cloning and sequencing of the complicated rDNA gene family of Bos taurus

open access: yesCzech Journal of Animal Science, 2006
The rDNA genes coding for ribosomal RNA (rRNA) in animals are repeat sequences with high GC content and complicated structure. Based on the sequences of human ribosomal DNA repeat unit and transcription unit and the long and accurate PCR method with LA ...

The long-range interaction map of ribosomal DNA arrays. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2018
The repeated rDNA array gives rise to the nucleolus, an organelle that is central to cellular processes as varied as stress response, cell cycle regulation, RNA modification, cell metabolism, and genome stability.

ABH2 Couples Regulation of Ribosomal DNA Transcription with DNA Alkylation Repair

open access: yesCell Reports, 2013
Transcription has been linked to DNA damage. How the most highly transcribed mammalian ribosomal (rDNA) genes maintain genome integrity in the absence of transcription-coupled DNA damage repair is poorly understood.
