A chloroplast‐associated STAY‐GREEN protein, NtSGRL1, acts as a negative regulator of antiviral immunity in tobacco. Disruption of NtSGRL1 enhances resistance to diverse plant viruses and reveals a previously unrecognized link between chloroplast regulation and immune signalling.

Maize regeneration via somatic embryogenesis by ectopic expression of morphogenic factors TaGRF4‐TaGIF1 and ZmBBM. Summary Transformation is an indispensable tool for plant genetics and functional genomics. Although stable transformation in maize is no longer a major obstacle, there remains a need for accessible and efficient methods for academic ...

The CaM1‐CBP60b‐MYB77 Transcriptional Cascade Regulates K+ Homeostasis and Salt Tolerance in Barley
ABSTRACT Soil salinity is a major abiotic stress that threatens global crop productivity. Calcium (Ca2+) is a pivotal second messenger in plant stress signalling, but how Ca2+ sensors such as calmodulin (CaM) transcriptionally control ion homeostasis and salt tolerance remains largely understood in crops.

Heterosis breeding in rice (Oryza sativa L.)
Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1982Studies conducted at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) during 1980 and 1981 have shown up to 73% heterosis, 59% heterobeltiosis and 34% standard heterosis for yield in rice. The latter was estimated in comparison to commercial varieties: IR36 and IR42 (yield 4-5 t/ha in wet season trials and 7-8 t/ha in dry season trials).

Rice, Indica (Oryza sativa L.)
2014Indica varieties, which are generally recalcitrant to tissue culture and transformation, occupy 80 % of rice cultivation area in the world. Therefore, transformation method for indica rice must be improved greatly so that global rice production would take full advantage of cutting-edge biotechnology.

Rice, Japonica (Oryza sativa L.)
2014The importance of rice, as a food crop, is reflected in the extensive global research being conducted in an effort to improve and better understand this particular agronomic plant. In regard to biotechnology, this has led to the development of numerous genetic transformation protocols.

HETEROSIS IN RICE (Oryza sativa L.).
Madras Agricultural Journal, 1987A study was made to assess the extent of oxploitable heterosis in a 7 x 7 diallel. The results indicated that almost all combinations involving IR 8 as one of the parents pos- sessed high mean and significant heterosis for yield but none of thec ombinations excelled it, indicating non-existence of exploitable heterosis with the parents under study ...

Monitoring homologous recombination in rice (Oryza sativa L.)
Mutation Research - Fundamental and Molecular Mechanisms of Mutagenesis, 2010Here we describe a system to assay homologous recombination during the complete life cycle of rice (Oryza sativa L.). Rice plants were transformed with two copies of non-functional GUS reporter overlap fragments as recombination substrate. Recombination was observed in all plant organs examined, from the seed stage until the flowering stage of somatic ...
