Background Glutathione (GSH) is important for plants to resist abiotic stress, and a large amount of energy is required in the process. However, it is not clear how the energy status affects the accumulation of GSH in plants under cold stress.

Drying of post-harvest rough rice with silica gel: A preliminary investigation [PDF]
Rice drying operations can encounter problems of over drying and losses in head rice yield (HRY) through the formation of fissures. Typical rice drying methods also utilize large volumes of expensive fossil fuels to dry the kernels. Drying of rice with a

Do arsenic levels in rice pose a health risk to the UK population? [PDF]
Consumption of rice and rice products can be a significant exposure pathway to inorganic arsenic (iAs), which is a group 1 carcinogen to humans. The UK follows the current European Commission regulations so that iAs concentrations must be 0.1 mg kg-1 ...

Detection of Thioarsenates in Rice Grains and Rice Products
Inorganic and methylated thioarsenates have recently been reported to contribute substantially to arsenic (As) speciation in paddy-soil pore waters. Here, we show that thioarsenates can also accumulate in rice grains and rice products. For their detection, a method was developed using a pepsin-pancreatin enzymatic extraction followed by chromatographic

Topological Spin Texture Created by Zhang--Rice Singlets in Cuprate Superconductors [PDF]
One of the most important effects of strong electron correlation in high-Tc cuprates is the formation of Zhang-Rice singlets. By fully accounting for the quantum correlation effect of Zhang-Rice singlet formation, we show that a topological spin texture, skyrmion, is created around a Zhang-Rice singlet in the single-hole-doped CuO2 plane.

Proteomic Analysis to Identify Tightly-Bound Cell Wall Protein in Rice Calli. [PDF]
Rice is a model plant widely used for basic and applied research programs. Plant cell wall proteins play key roles in a broad range of biological processes. However, presently, knowledge on the rice cell wall proteome is rudimentary in nature.

Production of activated and Graphene-Like Carbon Materials from rice husk [PDF]
The main research efforts are aimed at finding inexpensive materials that can be converted into nanostructured carbon-containing materials, such as activated carbon and graphene. Rice husks are one such material, especially in developing countries, where more than 95% of Rice husks are produced worldwide.
