Antibiotic Resistance of Helicobacter pylori Strains Isolated From Pediatric Patients in Southwest China

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2021
The number of antibiotics that are appropriate for Helicobacter pylori eradication in children is limited. Profiling regional or population-specific antibiotic resistance is essential in guiding the H. pylori eradication treatment in children. The aim of

Preparation, in vitro release and antibacterial activity evaluation of rifampicin and moxifloxacin-loaded poly(D,L-lactide-co-glycolide) microspheres

open access: yesArtificial Cells, Nanomedicine, and Biotechnology, 2019
Osteomyelitis is difficult to treat because infective bone is poorly accessible for intravenously administering antibiotics and biofilm formation increases bacterial resistance. In this study, microspheres prepared using poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA)

Rifampin‐induced acute kidney injury and hemolysis: A case report and literature review of a rare condition

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, 2022
Rifampicin is a bactericidal drug used in various infectious diseases, including tuberculosis (TB). Nephrotoxicity is a rare side effect of intermittent Rifampin use and even less commonly continued use. We report a case of Rifampin‐induced acute tubular

Bacteria‐Responsive Nanostructured Drug Delivery Systems for Targeted Antimicrobial Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Bacteria‐responsive nanocarriers are designed to release antimicrobials only in the presence of infection‐specific cues. This selective activation ensures drug release precisely at the site of infection, avoiding premature or indiscriminate release, and enhancing efficacy.

When you never thought it would be me

open access: yesAPIK Journal of Internal Medicine, 2020
Tuberculosis, both pulmonary and extrapulmonary, is a procoagulant state, which can lead to deep-vein thrombosis and thromboembolism. Rifampicin, the antitubercular drug by itself, can cause a procoagulant state.

Transposase‐Assisted Donor Tethering Boosts Large‐Fragment HDR in Plants

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A transposase‐assisted donor tethering strategy is developed to enhance homology‐directed repair in plants. By recruiting donor DNA to double‐strand breaks and synergizing with repair pathway reprogramming and transcription‐coupled donor design, this system markedly improves large‐fragment targeted insertion efficiency, providing a robust platform for ...

Conformational Snapshots of CydDC in a Native Lipid Bilayer Coupling Heme Transport to Antibiotic Resistance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Phylogenetic and biochemical analyses of the heme transporter CydDC reveal its functional conservation throughout bacterial evolution and demonstrate its unique asymmetric allosteric mechanism. Furthermore, impairment of CydDC function directly affects bacterial antibiotic resistance and likely compromises antibiotic efficacy through drug efflux.

Rifampicin-induced thrombocytopenia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Rifampicin-induced thrombocytopenia is a rare but potentially fatal immune phenomenon. We report the case of an immunocompromised patient with disseminated tuberculosis who developed rifampicin-induced thrombocytopenia 12 hours after starting anti ...

Protein binding of rifampicin is not saturated when using high-dose rifampicin

open access: yes, 2019
Background Higher doses of rifampicin are being investigated as a means to optimize response to this pivotal TB drug. It is unknown whether high-dose rifampicin results in saturation of plasma protein binding and a relative increase in protein-unbound ...

Synergistic Advanced Oxidation and Physicochemical Treatment Strategies for Antibiotic Removal and Resistance Mitigation in Water

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The presence of antibiotics in water not only causes environmental pollution but also increases the growth of antibiotic‐resistant bacterial genes, which pose serious threats to human beings and other water residents. Large numbers of people are reportedly affected by the resistant bacterial genes, as many broad‐spectrum antibiotics are not ...
