Assessing the Dermal Penetration Efficacy of Chemical Compounds with the Ex-Vivo Porcine Ear Model

open access: yesPharmaceutics, 2022
(1) Background: The ex vivo porcine ear model is often used for the determination of the dermal penetration efficacy of chemical compounds. This study investigated the influence of the post-slaughter storage time of porcine ears on the dermal penetration

Caracterização do processo de rigor mortis do músculo Ilio-ischiocaudalis de jacaré-do-pantanal (Caiman crocodilus yacare) e maciez da carne Characterization of rigor mortis process of muscle Ilio-ischiocaudalis of pantanal alligator (Caiman crocodilus yacare) and meat tenderness

Changes on the Development of Rigor Mortis in Cultured Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) Fed with a Mixture of Plant Proteins

open access: yesJournal of Chemistry, 2020
In recent years it has been pointed out that the feed of farmed fish has an effect on the quality of the final product. Therefore, this study evaluated the effect of fishmeal (FM) replacement by a mixture of plant protein (MPP) on the development of ...

Correlations among Stress Parameters, Meat and Carcass Quality Parameters in Pigs [PDF]

open access: yesAsian-Australasian Journal of Animal Sciences, 2015
Relationships among different stress parameters (lairage time and blood level of lactate and cortisol), meat quality parameters (initial and ultimate pH value, temperature, drip loss, sensory and instrumental colour, marbling) and carcass quality ...

From sagittal to sprawled: Clavicular co‐option and the evolution of forelimb mechanics in talpines

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
Forelimb posture in Eulipotyphla divides into sagittal and sprawled groups with distinct scapular and clavicular orientations. First true rib strength scales with body mass, reflecting vertical ground reaction forces, whereas clavicular strength reflects differences in medially directed forces on the pectoral girdle, especially pronounced in highly ...

Relationships among pre-slaughter stress, rigor mortis, blood lactate, and meat and carcass quality in pigs

open access: yesActa Veterinaria, 2014
The aim of this study was to examine the relationships among pre-slaughter stress, rigor mortis, blood lactate, and meat and carcass quality in 100 pigs (cross between Naima sows and hybrids P-76 PenArLan boars).

Layer‐by‐layer soft‐tissue effects on flexion–extension‐dominant passive ex vivo limb joint ROM in quadrupedal mammals: An anatomical contribution to a morphofunctional framework

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
Layer‐by‐layer passive ex vivo assessment of flexion–extension‐dominant limb joint ROM across rabbit, pudu deer, chilla fox and pig revealed joint‐, tissue‐ and taxon‐specific responses to progressive tissue removal. Proximal joints often showed increasing ROM, whereas distal joints often showed non‐monotonic responses.
