Synthesis of Enantiomerically Pure N-Boc-Protected 1,2,3-Triaminopropylphosphonates and 1,2-Diamino-3-Hydroxypropylphosphonates

open access: yesMolecules, 2019
All possible isomers of 1,2,3-tri(N-tert-butoxycarbonylamino)propylphosphonate 6 were synthesized from the respective diethyl [N-(1-phenylethyl)]-1-benzylamino-2,3-epiiminopropylphosphonates 5 via opening the aziridine ring with trimethylsilyl azide ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Ring-Opening Polymerization of Heterocycles with Palladium Insertion Catalysts:  Observation of a Multifunctional Polymerization Initiator

open access: yes, 2016
The palladium insertion polymerization catalysts (bipy)Pd(CH3)L+OTf- have been found to mediate a second class of polymerization reaction:  the ring-opening polymerization of heterocycles.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Ti-Catalyzed Ring-Opening Oxidative Amination of Methylenecyclopropanes with Diazenes

open access: yes, 2020
The ring-opening oxidative amination of methylenecyclopropanes (MCPs) with diazenes catalyzed by py3TiCl2(NR) complexes is reported.

Developing New Methods for the Mono-end Functionalization of Living Ring Opening Metathesis Polymers

open access: yesCHIMIA, 2012
In this article we present a review of our recent results in one area of research we are involved in. All research efforts in our group focus on functional polymers and new ways of gaining higher levels of control with regard to the placement of

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

The Radical Ring-Opening Polymerization of Cyclic Ketene Acetals Revisited: An Experimental and Theoretical Study

open access: yes, 2020
Radical Ring-Opening polymerization (rROP) of Cyclic Ketene Acetals (CKAs) combines the advantages of both ring-opening and radical polymerization thereby allowing the robust production of polyesters.
