Starazo triple switches – synthesis of unsymmetrical 1,3,5-tris(arylazo)benzenes

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2020
Multistate switches allow to drastically increase the information storage capacity and complexity of smart materials. In this context, unsymmetrical 1,3,5-tris(arylazo)benzenes – ‘starazos’ – which merge three photoswitches on one benzene ring, were ...

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Human Somatostatin Receptor Specificity of Backbone-Cyclic Analogues Containing Novel Sulfur Building Units

open access: yes, 2016
Somatostatin-14 (somatostatin) and its clinically available analogues octreotide, lanreotide, and vapreotide are potent inhibitors of growth hormone, insulin, and glucagon release. Recently, a novel backbone cyclic somatostatin analogue c(GABA-Phe-Trp-(D)

Time‐of‐Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry Revealing the Organocatalyst Distribution in Functionalized Silica Monoliths

open access: yesChemistryOpen
Hierarchically porous monolithic silica shows promise as a carrier material for immobilized organocatalysts. Conventional analysis usually includes physisorption, infrared spectroscopy and elemental analysis, among others, to elucidate the pore space and

meta-Oligoazobiphenyls – synthesis via site-selective Mills reaction and photochemical properties

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2012
The investigation of multi-photochromic compounds constitutes a great challenge, not only from a synthetic point of view, but also with respect to the analysis of the photochemical properties.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Synthesis of trichiliasterones A and B — 16-Ketosteroids isolated from Trichilia hirta and Trichilia americana

open access: yes, 2001
The syntheses of trichiliasterone A (3β-hydroxypregnan-2,16-dione) and trichiliasterone B (2-hydroxyandrost-1,4-diene-3,16-dione) have been carried out starting from isoandrosterone and testosterone acetate, respectively.

Synthesis of aromatic and heterocyclic platform chemicals from bio-derived furans [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The environmental impact of the extensive use of fossil fuels to produce fuels and chemicals as well as the cost sensitivity of platform chemicals to oil prices remain major concerns.

Exploring Catalysis inside Self-assembled Supramolecular Containers

open access: yesCHIMIA, 2016
Our group is interested in applying supramolecular host systems as catalysts for challenging transformations. Although a variety of supramolecular containers has been described in literature, their use as reaction chambers is still underexplored.

ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.
