Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Construction of transcriptional regulatory networks using total RNA-seq data
Summary: Total RNA sequencing allows capturing of long non-coding and circular RNA along with mRNA. Additional sequencing of micro RNA (miRNA), using libraries with shorter fragments, provides the means to characterize miRNA-driven transcriptional ...

Core promoter: A critical region where the hepatitis B virus makes decisions [PDF]
The core promoter (CP) of the viral genome plays an important role for hepatitis B virus (HBV) replication as it directs initiation of transcription for the synthesis of both the precore and pregenomic (pg) RNAs.

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Hybrids of RNA viruses and viroid-like elements replicate in fungi
Earth’s life may have originated as self-replicating RNA, and it has been argued that RNA viruses and viroid-like elements are remnants of such pre-cellular RNA world. RNA viruses are defined by linear RNA genomes encoding an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase

Research progress on circular RNA vaccines
Owing to the success of linear mRNA coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines, biopharmaceutical companies and research teams worldwide have attempted to develop more stable circular RNA (circRNA) vaccines and have achieved some preliminary results ...

An atlas of cortical circular RNA expression in Alzheimer disease brains demonstrates clinical and pathological associations. [PDF]
Parietal cortex RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq) data were generated from individuals with and without Alzheimer disease (AD; ncontrol = 13; nAD = 83) from the Knight Alzheimer Disease Research Center (Knight ADRC).

Circular RNAs as Urinary Biomarkers [PDF]
Circular RNAs (circRNAs)3 bear a unique topological feature of circularity among the RNA species. CircRNAs, together with other RNA species without protein-coding potential, are grouped as noncoding RNAs (1). They are single-stranded, covalently closed circular RNA molecules and are hypothesized to be mainly generated through back-splicing of exons ...

ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.
