RNA-directed DNA methylation in plants
Plant Cell Reports, 2015In plants, many small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) direct de novo methylation by DNA methyltransferase. DNA methylation typically occurs by RNA-directed DNA methylation (RdDM), which directs transcriptional gene silencing of transposons and endogenous transgenes. RdDM is driven by non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) produced by DNA-dependent RNA polymerases IV and V

Studies on the biosynthesis and methylation of transfer RNA
Journal of Molecular Biology, 1964A rapidly labeled RNA fraction of the nucleolus has been isolated and partially characterized. This RNA component appears to be a precursor of transfer RNA. It contains neither pseudouridine nor methylated bases, and is unable to form amino acyl RNA. However, it resembles transfer RNA in base composition and molecular weight.

Abstract Eukaryotic messenger RNA molecules contain methylated nucleotides, both at their 5′-terminal end in a unique ‘cap' structure, and internally as 6-methyladenylic acid. Similar methylation patterns are.found in heterogeneous nuclear RNA molecules.

RNA m6A methylation at the juxtaposition of apoptosis and RNA therapeutics
Trends in Cell BiologyTargeting RNA m6A marks in apoptosis-related transcripts holds promise for RNA therapeutics. However, pathway-specific RNA m6A sites on pro- or antiapoptotic transcripts have not been fully unveiled, let alone characterized. This article summarizes the current knowledge and gaps in the cellular response modulated by apoptotic stimulus-specific RNA m6A ...

Small Nucleolar RNAs Guide Ribosomal RNA Methylation
Science, 1996Two recent reports, one in Cell and one in the Journal of Molecular Biology , show that the newly described small nucleolar RNAs control the site of methylation of the ribosomal RNA (rRNA). Tollervey explains how these small RNAs accomplish this targeting and discusses the possible role of ...

Publisher Summary RNA methylation gives rise to a variety of methylated nucleotides and methylated derivatives of all the base components of RNA are known. RNA methyltransferases catalyze the post-transcriptional modification of RNA, and methylated nucleosides are present in rRNA and mRNA as well as in tRNA.

LC-MS Analysis of Methylated RNA
2017The detection and quantification of methylated RNA can be beneficial to understand certain cellular regulation processes such as transcriptional modulation of gene expression, immune response, or epigenetic alterations. Therefore, it is necessary to have methods available, which are extremely sensitive and accurate, for instance liquid chromatography ...
