Monitoring of circulating tumor DNA allows early detection of disease relapse in patients with operable breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Monitoring circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) in patients with operable breast cancer can reveal disease relapse earlier than radiology in a subset of patients. The failure to detect ctDNA in some patients with recurrent disease suggests that ctDNA could serve as a supplement to other monitoring approaches.

Development of hybrid force-position controller for ultrasound-guided breast biopsy robotic system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Conventional ultrasound-guided breast biopsy (UGBB) procedure is commonly performed to assess abnormal masses within the breast. It requires a radiologist to handle multiple devices at once, which could reduce the abilities in performing such procedure ...

Robotic total gastrectomy with intracorporeal robot-sewn anastomosis. A novel approach adopting the double-loop reconstruction method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Gastric cancer constitutes a major health problem. Robotic surgery has been progressively developed in this field. Although the feasibility of robotic procedures has been demonstrated, there are unresolved aspects being debated, including the ...

Expert systems and robotics

open access: yesJournal of Research of the National Bureau of Standards, 1988
In the early sixties, AI researchers attempted to simulate the complicated process of thinking by finding general methods for solving broad classes of problems. This proved too difficult and such attempts failed. In the early seventies the problem was reformulated to include careful attention to data structures but the emphasis was still on general ...

Phenotypic and genotypic characterization of single circulating tumor cells in the follow‐up of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Single circulating tumor cells (sCTCs) from high‐grade serous ovarian cancer patients were enriched, imaged, and genomically profiled using WGA and NGS at different time points during treatment. sCTCs revealed enrichment of alterations in Chromosomes 2, 7, and 12 as well as persistent or emerging oncogenic CNAs, supporting sCTC identity.

Modular Robot Systems [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Robotics & Automation Magazine, 2010
We have presented a detailed retrospective on modular robots and discussed connections between modular robots and programmable matter. This field has seen a great deal of creativity and innovation at the level of designing physical systems capable of matching shape to function and algorithms that achieve this capability.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Natural Motion for Energy Saving in Robotic and Mechatronic Systems

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
Energy saving in robotic and mechatronic systems is becoming an evermore important topic in both industry and academia. One strategy to reduce the energy consumption, especially for cyclic tasks, is exploiting natural motion.

Robot Dream

open access: yes, 2016
In this position paper we present a novel approach to neurobiologically plausible implementation of emotional reactions and behaviors for real-time autonomous robotic systems. The working metaphor we use is the "day" and "night" phases of mammalian life.
