Gendered Actions with a Genderless Robot: Gender Attribution to Humanoid Robots in Action. [PDF]

open access: yesInt J Soc Robot, 2023
The present study aims to investigate how gender stereotypes affect people's gender attribution to social robots. To this end, we examined whether a robot can be attributed a gender depending on a performed action. The study consists of 3 stages. In the first stage, we determined masculine and feminine actions by a survey conducted with 54 participants.

Action Prediction in Humans and Robots

open access: yesCoRR, 2019
Efficient action prediction is of central importance for the fluent workflow between humans and equally so for human-robot interaction. To achieve prediction, actions can be encoded by a series of events, where every event corresponds to a change in a (static or dynamic) relation between some of the objects in a scene.

Action Priors for Large Action Spaces in Robotics [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Joint Conference on Autonomous Agents and Multiagent Systems, 2021
In robotics, it is often not possible to learn useful policies using pure model-free reinforcement learning without significant reward shaping or curriculum learning. As a consequence, many researchers rely on expert demonstrations to guide learning. However, acquiring expert demonstrations can be expensive.

Alignment to the Actions of a Robot [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Social Robotics, 2014
Alignment is a phenomenon observed in human conversation: Dialog partners' behavior converges in many respects. Such alignment has been proposed to be automatic and the basis for communicating successfully. Recent research on human-computer dialog promotes a mediated communicative design account of alignment according to which the extent of alignment ...
