Estimates of flour and starch yield of cassava roots

open access: yes, 2021
Through linear regression analysis, equations and graphs were developed that allow estimates of flour yield for the Sul Catarinense and Vale do Itajaí regions, in Santa Catarina, Brazil. In another linear regression study, a mathematical model was generated to estimate the starch yield of the roots from their dry matter content.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Seed Priming as a Tool for Optimizing Sugar Beet Canopy Traits, Root Yield and Technological Sugar Yield

open access: yesAgriculture
Seed priming is a proven method for enhancing early plant development and stress resilience, yet its field-level effects on sugar beet performance remain underexplored. This study evaluated the impact of seed priming on emergence dynamics, canopy traits,

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Does the Yield Spread Predict the Output Gap in the U.S.? [PDF]

open access: yes
Yes, but only at short horizons from 1 to 3 quarters over the full post-World War II sample. The predictive relation between the yield spread and the output gap is characterized by parameter instability.

The use of seedling root and shoot traits to predict the saleable yield of elite red papaya genotypes

open access: yes
Determining the saleable fruit yield of red hermaphrodite papaya (Carica papaya L.) relies on waiting until tree maturity. Recombinant inbred lines (RIL) seedlings (F6-F7 RIL) were assessed for fresh root length, fresh shoot weight, fresh shoot width ...

Alleviation of salt stress in Glycyrrhiza uralensis by lanthanum nitrate: a predictive modeling approach

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Seedling growth of Glycyrrhiza uralensis is severely inhibited by salt stress, limiting its cultivation in saline-alkali soils. This study aimed to evaluate the mitigative effects of lanthanum nitrate (La(NO3)3) and develop a predictive model for the ...

The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified

Response of Root Properties to Tripartite Symbiosis between Lucerne (Medicago sativa L.), Rhizobia and Mycorrhiza Under Dry Organic Farming Conditions

open access: yes, 2009
It is generally considered that root turnover is a major contributor to organic matter and mineral nutrient cycles in organic managed agroecosystems. Approach: This study designed to investigate whether microbial activity could affect on root properties ...

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...
