Subclass III SnRK2 Kinases Coordinate Starch and Storage Protein Synthesis During Maize Kernel Development

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 4, Page 2279-2299, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Enhancing both starch and protein accumulation is a key strategy for improving maize yield and quality. Achieving this goal requires an in‐depth understanding of the regulatory mechanisms that integrate these pathways. Here, we demonstrate that functionally redundant subclass III SNF1‐related protein kinase 2s (SnRK2s) act as central ...

‘Candidatus Liberibacter Asiaticus’ Effector SECP8 Subverts Salicylic Acid‐Mediated Citrus Immunity via a Two‐Pronged Impairment of CsTCP15 Dimerization

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 4, Page 2335-2349, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Citrus Huanglongbing (HLB), a devastating disease caused by the unculturable bacterium ‘Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus’ (CLas), poses a severe threat to global citrus production. CLas secretes effectors to suppress host immune responses and facilitate its colonisation. Previously, the CLas effector SECP8 (CLIBASIA_05330) has been identified

A GmeIF2B5‐GmPRX4 Regulatory Axis Divergently Governs Drought‐Lignin and Salt‐Ion Homeostasis in Soybean

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 4, Page 2405-2418, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Abiotic stresses severely constrain soybean productivity worldwide. Here we demonstrate that gmeif2b5 (eukaryotic initiation factors) mutants confer dual stress tolerance through coordinated mechanisms. Integrative RNA‐Seq and protein interaction analyses revealed that gmeif2b5 mutants increase lignin deposition to increase drought resilience ...

A Bacterial Effector Hijacks NBR1 to Modulate Both Autophagy and Ubiquitination‐Mediated Degradation That Promotes Bacterial Infection

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 4, Page 2492-2509, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Autophagy and the ubiquitin/26S proteasome system (UPS) play critical roles in the immune defence of the host against pathogen invasion. As a countermeasure, pathogens deploy effector proteins to subvert or hijack autophagy and UPS processes.

A DNA‐Based Binding Assay for the m6A‐RNA Reader Proteins

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 27, Issue 6, 27 March 2026.
We report the structure of the m6A‐RNA reader YTHDC2 in the complex with single‐stranded DNA. We provide evidence that the readers exhibit slightly stronger affinity for 6mA‐modified DNA than RNA. Thus, we developed an FP binding assay that uses single‐stranded DNA as probe.
