Circularly Polarized Luminescence in Rotaxanes and Catenanes

open access: yesChemistryEurope, EarlyView.
This review highlights the chiral rotaxanes and catenanes possessing static or stimuli‐responsive circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) activity both in solution and in the solid state. It also discusses macromolecular and supramolecular CPL‐emissive materials derived from these mechanically interlocked molecules.

Enzymatic Sialylation of Synthetic Multivalent Scaffolds: From 3′‐Sialyllactose Glycomacromolecules to Novel Neoglycosides

open access: yesMacromolecular Bioscience, Volume 22, Issue 12, December 2022., 2022
The combination of solid phase polymer synthesis and enzymatic sialyation is used to yield multivalent stereoselective 3′‐sialyllactose‐presenting macromolecules. The one pot reaction using synthetase NmCSS and sialyltransferase PmST1 is suitable to transfer sialic acid to either glycan acceptors, such as lactose, but as shown now in this study also to

Lumos: A β‐Diketone‐Derived Artificial Nucleobase Forming Inter‐Strand Complexes in DNA that Promote Lanthanoid Ion Luminescence

open access: yesChemistryEurope, EarlyView.
A novel artificial nucleobase, 1‐(3‐(hydroxymethyl)phenyl)‐3‐phenylpropane‐1,3‐dione (HdbmOR), bearing a β‐diketone functionality and designed to form inter‐strand complexes that resemble lanthanoid‐mediated base pairs, was developed. The antenna effect of HdbmOR promoting luminescence of EuIII and SmIII is retained upon incorporation into short ...

PLA‐b‐SMA as an Amphiphilic Diblock Copolymer for Encapsulation of Lipophilic Cargo

open access: yesMacromolecular Chemistry and Physics, Volume 224, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
The synthesis of poly(lactic acid)‐b‐poly(styrene‐alt‐maleic acid) (PLA‐b‐SMA) via sequential ring opening polymerization and reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer polymerization is presented. This polymer has a hydrophilic (SMA) and hydrophobic (PLA) segment, allowing it to undergo nanoprecipitation for the production of nanosphere and ...

Fractionation and identification of antioxidant and angiotensin-converting enzyme-inhibitory peptides obtained from plum (Prunus domestica L.) stones

open access: yesJournal of Functional Foods, 2015
Peptides with antioxidant and ACE-inhibitory capacities have been obtained from a plum processing by-product. The aim of this work was to fractionate most active plum hydrolysates, to identify peptides in these fractions, and to evaluate their resistance

Detection of Lectin Clustering in Self‐Assembled, Glycan‐Functionalized Amphiphiles by Aggregation‐Induced Emission Luminophores

open access: yesMacromolecular Chemistry and Physics, Volume 224, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
Glycan‐functionalized amphiphiles equipped with an AIE‐luminophore are attained via solid‐phase polymer synthesis and assembled into supramolecular assemblies (i.e., micelles and giant unilamellar vesicles). Driven by multivalent lectin‐carbohydrate binding, aggregation‐induced emission is then prompted or enhanced through the formation of local ...

Chemical Evolution of Early Macromolecules: From Prebiotic Oligopeptides to Self‐Organizing Biosystems via Amyloid Formation

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
APR‐A, an aggregation‐prone oligopeptide, can convert into APR‐B through distinct mutational pathways—some exclusively forming insoluble amyloid‐like peptides, others yielding water‐soluble, non‐aggregating monomers. These orthogonal pathways in chemical evolution may have driven macromolecular assembly under prebiotic Earth conditions, potentially ...
