Gadd45a promotes DNA demethylation through TDG [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Growth arrest and DNA-damage-inducible protein 45 (Gadd45) family members have been implicated in DNA demethylation in vertebrates. However, it remained unclear how they contribute to the demethylation process.

Nucleolar Enrichment of Brain Proteins with Critical Roles in Human Neurodevelopment* [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
To study nucleolar involvement in brain development, the nuclear and nucleolar proteomes from the rat cerebral cortex at postnatal day 7 were analyzed using LC-MS/iTRAQ methodology.

Visualization of positive and negative sense viral RNA for probing the mechanism of direct-acting antivirals against hepatitis C virus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
RNA viruses are highly successful pathogens and are the causative agents for many important diseases. To fully understand the replication of these viruses it is necessary to address the roles of both positive-strand RNA ((+)RNA) and negative-strand RNA ((

Significant Improvement of Environmental DNA Assay by Targeting Retrotransposon Sequences Characteristic to Anguilla Eels

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 7, Issue 5, September–October 2025.
We developed a novel Anguilla eel assay targeting retrotransposons and compared the performance with that of a mitochondrial DNA assay. Our assay detected approximately 170 times more environmental DNA of the eel from river water samples, significantly improving sensitivity and accuracy.

KEGG orthology-based annotation of the predicted proteome of Acropora digitifera: ZoophyteBase - an open access and searchable database of a coral genome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
BACKGROUND: Contemporary coral reef research has firmly established that a genomic approach is urgently needed to better understand the effects of anthropogenic environmental stress and global climate change on coral holobiont interactions.

Mitochondrial dysfunction: Related diseases, influencing factors, and detection

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, Volume 3, Issue 5, September 2025.
Mitochondrial dysfunction is implicated in the pathogenesis of numerous diseases, including neurological disorders, cancers, and cardiovascular conditions, through mechanisms such as mitochondrial DNA mutations, dysregulation of mitochondrial network dynamics, and impaired mitophagy.

Levels of feline infectious peritonitis virus in blood, effusions, and various tissues and the role of lymphopenia in disease outcome following experimental infection. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Twenty specific pathogen free cats were experimentally infected with a virulent cat-passaged type I field strain of FIPV. Eighteen cats succumbed within 2-4 weeks to effusive abdominal FIP, one survived for 6 weeks, and one seroconverted without outward ...

Mitochondrial Diseases: Molecular Pathogenesis and Therapeutic Advances

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 6, Issue 9, September 2025.
Key pathogenic mechanisms—OXPHOS defects, heteroplasmy, impaired mtDNA repair, disrupted dynamics/mitophagy, and inflammatory signaling—drive multiorgan involvement in mitochondrial diseases. Targeted interventions include metabolic drugs (CoQ10, idebenone, EPI‐743), mitochondrial gene editing (DdCBE, mitoBEs, CyDENT/mitoTALEN/mtZFN), and mitochondrial

Antitumoral Efficacy of AuNRs‐Laden ECFCs In Vitro and In Vivo: Decoding the Heat and Rays Combo Treatment in Breast Cancer and Melanoma Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 14, Issue 22, August 28, 2025.
Endothelial Colony Forming Cells (ECFCs) acted as cellular cyborgs, stealthily transporting gold nanorods (AuNRs) into tumors to enable targeted near‐infrared (NIR) hyperthermia combined with radiotherapy. This approach triggers ferroptosis in melanoma and inhibits autophagy in breast cancer, revealing a tumor‐specific response to nanomaterial‐assisted

The role of long non‐coding RNAs in lung cancer metastasis: Molecular mechanisms, pathogenesis and clinical implications

open access: yesClinical and Translational Medicine, Volume 15, Issue 8, August 2025.
LncRNAs are localized in cytosol, nucleus, other sub‐nuclear compartments, and exosomes in the cell, and play significant role in lung cancer dissemination based on their localizations. LncRNAs have emerged as promising biomarkers for both early detection and prognosis.
