Loss of Stability for Blood Urea Nitrogen in Cattle Serum Samples Stored for 3 and 6 Months at −20°C and −80°C

open access: yesVeterinary Clinical Pathology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Biological samples are stored for delayed or add‐on analyses. However, storage conditions, including time and temperature, can affect the stability of measurands in the samples. Objectives To assess the stability of blood urea nitrogen (BUN) in cattle serum samples.

Invited review: Ruminal acidosis and its definition—A critical review

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science
: Ruminal acidosis occurs as a continuum of disorders, stemming from ruminal dysbiosis and disorders of metabolism, of varying severity. The condition has a marked temporal dynamic expression, resulting in cases expressing quite different rumen ...

Influência da monensina no consumo e na fermentação ruminal em bovinos recebendo dietas com teores baixo e alto de proteína Effects of different dietary levels of monensin and protein on intake and ruminal fermentation in bovines

Effects of Rosemary, Citronella, and Tea Tree Essential Oils on Fermentation Characteristics and Aerobic Stability of Sorghum Silage

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 9, September 2026.
Rosemary, citronella, and tea tree essential oils were evaluated as natural additives for sorghum silage at four inclusion levels (0, 500, 1000, and 2000 mg kg−1 of fresh forage). Rosemary essential oil improved fermentation by increasing crude protein while reducing ammonia nitrogen and butyric acid concentrations.

Protein-energy supplementation frequency on ruminal variables, intake and digestibility in steers receiving low quality hay

open access: yesCiência Animal Brasileira, 2020
The aim was evaluated the effect of reduce in protein-energy supplementation frequency on nutrients intake, forage digestibility and degradability, as well as, ruminal pH and ammonia nitrogen (N-NH3) concentration in beef cattle receiving low-quality hay.

Effects of Perovskia abrotanoides Kar. Essential Oil on Greenhouse Gas Mitigation and Energy Efficiency Improvement in Sheep Rumen: An In Vitro Study

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 5, September 2026.
The essential oil of Perovskia abrotanoides Kar. (rich in 1,8‐cineole and camphor) linearly reduced methane production (up to 57.5%) and total protozoa population in sheep rumen fluid in vitro. Simultaneously, it increased microbial biomass production, microbial synthesis efficiency and the partitioning factor, indicating improved rumen energy ...

Influence of fibrolytic enzymes on ruminal disappearance and fermentation in steers fed diets with short and long particle length of forage

open access: yesItalian Journal of Animal Science, 2010
The effects of an exogenous fibrolytic enzyme mixture on in sacco ruminal disappearance and fermentation of growing (380 kg body weight) and finishing (440 kg body weight) steers fed with diets to short (10 mm) and long (50 mm) particle length (PL) were ...

High‐Starch Diet Prepartum Enhances IgG Concentration in Goat Colostrum Without Affecting the Transfer of Passive Immunity

open access: yesJournal of Animal Physiology and Animal Nutrition, Volume 110, Issue 5, Page 741-752, September 2026.
ABSTRACT This study hypothesises that a high‐starch (HS) diet during the last month of gestation enhances colostrum yield and composition as well as the dam and goat kid metabolism, immune status and performance. Thirty multiparous and pregnant Majorera dairy goats were randomly assigned to a prepartum dietary treatment (CON vs.

Feeding amylolytic and fibrolytic exogenous enzymes in feedlot diets: effects on ruminal parameters, nitrogen balance and microbial diversity of Nellore cattle

open access: yesJournal of Animal Science and Biotechnology
Background The environmental impact of feedlot operations is a growing concern, as cattle excrete a significant portion of feed nutrients as waste.
