Cell Surface Markers Identify Astrocyte Subpopulations in the Adult Hippocampus With a Heterogeneous Response to Aging

open access: yesGlia, Volume 74, Issue 11, November 2026.
ATP1B2 and GLAST identify two astrocyte subpopulations in the hippocampus with distinct molecular signatures. Transcriptomic shifts during aging differ between both subpopulations. Aged ATP1B2+ astrocytes rewire their metabolism while double‐positive aged astrocytes display a reduced synaptogenic capability.

Novel NaV1.6‐Mitochondrial Complexes in Retinal Astrocyte Pockets Sequester GABA

open access: yesGlia, Volume 74, Issue 11, November 2026.
NaV1.6 localizes in retinal astrocytes' high density pockets on the bilayer facing the ganglion cell layer. NaV colocalizes with large, anaplerotic mitochondria. These microdomains accumulate high levels of GABA. ABSTRACT Voltage‐gated sodium channels are best known for their capacity to generate and propagate electrical currents in neurons and muscle.

Recent Advance of S100B Proteins in Spontaneous Intracerebral Hemorrhage and Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioscience-Landmark
Human health is seriously endangered by spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) and aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). Because the majority of ICH and aSAH survivors experience disability, increased risk of stroke recurrence, cognitive decline,

Cell Type‐Specific Extracellular Vesicles in Mouse Brain: Proteomic Signatures Highlight Astrocytic GlialCAM Network and GPCR Enrichment

open access: yesGlia, Volume 74, Issue 10, October 2026.
Cell type–specific EVs were isolated from mouse brain and profiled by proteomics. Each EV subtype exhibited proteomic signatures consistent with the specialized functions of its cell of origin. Astrocyte‐derived EVs (ADEVs) were enriched for the GlialCAM/MLC1 network and GPCRs.

Circulating S100B fails to invade barrier organs; however S100B gene transcription and protein synthesis occurs in both brain and testis.

open access: yes, 2014
Injection (exogenous) strategies demonstrate privilege of barrier organs to transendothelial diffusion of S100B while immunodetection of endogenous S100B demonstrates brain- and testis specific S100B protein by astrocytes and Sertoli cells.

Fibro‐Adipogenic Progenitor Ablation Triggers Muscle Atrophy Through Cell Death‐Induced Inflammation

open access: yesJournal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle, Volume 17, Issue 5, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Skeletal muscle mass maintenance involves coordination of myofibers with mononuclear cell populations, including satellite cells, resident macrophages and fibro‐adipogenic progenitors (FAPs). FAPs, identified by surface expression of PDGFRα, are important contributors to muscle homeostasis, as genetic ablation of FAPs induces rapid ...

A State‐Resolved Single‐Cell and Spatial Atlas Reveals IDH‐Associated Differences in Malignant and Immune Architecture in Diffuse Glioma

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 10, October 2026.
Single‐cell and spatial transcriptomic profiling of 69 adult‐type diffuse gliomas revealed seven recurrent malignant cell states. GBMs were enriched for astrocyte‐like progenitor, hypoxic, and proliferative states, with higher T‐ and myeloid‐cell infiltration but transcriptional immune suppression.
