S100A1 and S100B interactions with annexins

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Molecular Cell Research, 2000
Members of the annexin protein family interact with members of the S100 protein family thereby forming heterotetramers in which an S100 homodimer crossbridges two copies of the pertinent annexin. Previous work has shown that S100A1 and S100B bind annexin VI in a Ca(2+)-dependent manner and that annexin VI, but not annexin V, blocks the inhibitory ...

Serum Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein and S100B Profiles in Severity and Outcome Assessment of Moderate and Severe Head Injury Patients in India

open access: yesCurrent Medical Issues
Background Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a significant global health issue, with India witnessing approximately 150,000 deaths and 50,000 TBI-related fatalities annually. Severity is classified as mild, moderate, or severe using the Glasgow Coma Scale (

Zinc Binding to S100B Affords Regulation of Trace Metal Homeostasis and Excitotoxicity in the Brain

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Neuroscience, 2018
Neuronal metal ions such as zinc are essential for brain function. In particular synaptic processes are tightly related to metal and protein homeostasis, for example through extracellular metal-binding proteins.

The calcium-binding protein S100B reduces IL6 production in malignant melanoma via inhibition of RSK cellular signaling.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
S100B is frequently elevated in malignant melanoma. A regulatory mechanism was uncovered here in which elevated S100B lowers mRNA and secreted protein levels of interleukin-6 (IL6) and inhibits an autocrine loop whereby IL6 activates STAT3 signaling. Our

The relationship between anxiety and serum urotensin-II and S100B levels in patients with essential hypertension (eng)

open access: yesKlinik Psikiyatri Dergisi, 2021
INTRODUCTION[|]In hypertensive people, some biochemical parameters that are associated with oxidative stress and endothelial functions may play a role in the manifestation of anxiety symptoms, and even in the intensification of clinical symptoms of the ...

ANKS1B in the Nucleus Accumbens Controls Escalated Cocaine Self‐Administration via Regulating CBP‐FoxO3 Complex

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ANKS1B in the nucleus accumbens plays a critical role in the transition from controlled to escalated cocaine intake. Mechanistically, ANKS1B interacts with CBP to epigenetically suppress FoxO3 through H3K27 acetylation. The ANKS1B‐CBP‐FoxO3 signaling cascade presents a novel theraputic target for the treatment of cocaine addiction.

Correlation between cerebral biomarkers and optic nerve sheath diameter in patients with severe preeclampsia

open access: yesHypertension in Pregnancy, 2021
Objective: To examine the correlation between plasma cerebral biomarkers (S100B and neuron-specific enolase (NSE)) and ultrasonographic optic-nerve-sheath-diameter (ONSD) in preeclampsia.

Noninvasive Focal Gene Delivery into the Cerebellum of Non‐Human Primates using Focused Ultrasound

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Focal and non‐invasive viral vector delivery in non‐human primates remains a major challenge in translational neuroscience. Low‐intensity focused ultrasound was used to transiently open the blood–brain barrier and enable targeted gene delivery to the cerebellum.

S100B milk concentration in mammalian species

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioscience, 2009
S100B is a neurotrophic protein detectable in biological fluids and in human milk. Since there are several maternal-neonatal conditions requiring the administration of animal milks the aim of the present study was to quantify S100B in milk from different mammalian species and to compare protein's concentration among human and mammalian milks.

Cancer‐Associated Fibroblast‐Derived Sphingosine‐1‐Phosphate Activates a MALL–SDC4 Axis to Facilitate Perineural Invasion in Pancreatic Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
CAF‐derived S1P activates the S1PR3‐JNK‐Jun signaling pathway, thereby transcriptionally upregulating MALL expression in cancer cells. MALL increases the cell‐surface abundance of SDC4 by promoting its recycling and restricting its lysosomal degradation, which in turn enhances RhoA‐p‐MLC2‐dependent amoeboid invasion and SDC4‐PTN axis‐mediated cancer ...
