Variability in intracellular localization of D‐amino acid oxidase in choroid plexus epithelial cells

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
D‐amino acid oxidase (DAO) in choroid plexus epithelial cells (CPECs) shows vesicle‐like localization by histological and super‐resolution analyses. DAO colocalizes with peroxisomal, Golgi, endosomal, lysosomal, autophagosomal, and exosomal markers, indicating diverse subcellular distribution. This suggests DAO is transported within CPECs to metabolize

Astrocytic Biomarkers in Epilepsy: A Critical Review on Clinical Utility and Mechanistic Implications

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioscience-Landmark
Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological disorders in both children and adults, characterized by significant clinical heterogeneity and dynamic natural course.

A lack of association between elevated serum levels of S100B protein and autoimmunity in autistic children

open access: yesJournal of Neuroinflammation, 2012
Background S100B is a calcium-binding protein that is produced primarily by astrocytes. Increased serum S100B protein levels reflect neurological damage. Autoimmunity may have a role in the pathogenesis of autism in some patients.

Astrocytic connexin43 phosphorylation contributes to seizure susceptibility after mild traumatic brain injury

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Astrocytic gap junctions formed by connexin43 (Cx43) help maintain brain homeostasis. After mild traumatic brain injury (TBI), total cortical Cx43 increases and redistributes toward a soluble, non‐junctional pool with elevated hemichannel activity and increased phosphorylation at serine 368 (pCx43S368).

Astrocytic mGluR5 Regulation of Synaptic Transmission is Activity‐Dependent in Adult Rats

open access: yesGlia, Volume 74, Issue 8, August 2026.
In adulthood, astrocytic mGluR5 increases synaptic efficacy through presynaptic A2ARs. This occurs when a small number of synapses are activated simultaneously. This pathway is abolished when numerous synapses are recruited. ABSTRACT Data accumulated over the last two decades have demonstrated that astrocytes play key roles in the regulation of ...

Lipopolysaccharide modulates astrocytic S100B secretion: a study in cerebrospinal fluid and astrocyte cultures from rats

open access: yesJournal of Neuroinflammation, 2011
Background Inflammatory responses in brain are primarily mediated by microglia, but growing evidence suggests a crucial importance of astrocytes. S100B, a calcium-binding protein secreted by astrocytes, has properties of a neurotrophic or an inflammatory

Sphingosine‐1‐Phosphate Receptor 1 Regulates Competition Dependent Astrocyte Morphogenesis and Tiling in Murine Cortex

open access: yesGlia, Volume 74, Issue 8, August 2026.
Neuronal contact‐induced expression of S1PR1 in astrocytes is regulated by JAK‐STAT3 signaling. Astrocytic S1PR1 modulates cortical astrocyte morphogenesis. Astrocytic S1PR1 regulates astrocyte territorial overlap/tiling in a competition dependent manner.
