Hardening of an Al-Cu-Mg alloy containing type I and II S phase precipitates

open access: yes, 2010
The effect of different thermo-mechanical treatments on the hardness of the 2024 (Al-Cu-Mg) alloy was studied. Artificial ageing was conducted through heating at a constant rate to specific temperatures followed by rapid cooling.

Gut microbiota-derived TMAO drives the kidney-bone-vascular axis in chronic kidney disease complications

open access: yesRenal Failure
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is often accompanied by comorbidities such as skeletal disorders and vascular calcification, which significantly elevate the mortality risk among affected patients. In recent years, dysbiosis of the gut microbiota has emerged

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

S-phase-dependent cell cycle disturbances caused by Aleutian mink disease parvovirus

open access: yes, 1997
We examined replication of the autonomous parvovirus Aleutian mink disease parvovirus (ADV) in relation to cell cycle progression of permissive Crandell feline kidney (CRFK) cells.

PAX3 Loads onto Pericentromeric Heterochromatin During S Phase Through PARP1

open access: yes, 2014
[[abstract]]BACKGROUND: Proper re-establishment of heterochromatin after each round of DNA replication is critical to the preservation of cell identity. Paired box 3 (PAX3), a transcription factor important in embryonic development, was found to mediate ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.
