Norepinephrine transporter blocker atomoxetine increases salivary alpha amylase
It has been suggested that central norepinephrine (NE) activity may be inferred from increases in salivary alpha-amylase (SAA), but data in favor of this proposition are limited. We administered 40mg of atomoxetine, a selective NE transporter blocker that increases central NE levels, to 24 healthy adult participants in a double-blind, placebo ...

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is associated with dysregulation of the autonomic nervous system and altered brain–gut communication. rTMS may alleviate IBS symptoms by modulating central autonomic and pain‐processing networks, potentially restoring sympathovagal balance and reducing visceral hypersensitivity.

Variation in Salivary and Pancreatic Alpha-Amylase Genes in Italian Horse Breeds [PDF]
The dietary demand of the modern horse relies on high-cereal feeding and limited forage compared with natural grazing conditions, predisposing the horse to several important diseases. Salivary and pancreatic alpha-amylases (coded by AMY1 and AMY2 genes, respectively) play a crucial role in carbohydrate digestion in nonruminants, but little is known ...

Abstract This study evaluated whether adjunctive 10‐methacryloyloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate (MDP) primers enhance the microtensile bond strength (µTBS) of two universal adhesives (UAs) to dentin under artificial aging and repeated salivary contamination applied at each bonding step.

The effects of autonomy support on salivary alpha-amylase: The role of individual differences [PDF]
The empirical evidence for the relationship between autonomy-supportive environments and physiological stress is inconsistent. Whereas some studies report a decrease in stress in autonomy-supportive environments, other studies show a negative effect of autonomy on physiological stress.

RNA‐seq and Batelli gland proteomics of fifth‐instar Mahanarva spectabilis nymphs reveal transcripts and proteins associated with xylem feeding, foam production and environmental interaction. Functional annotation identified genes involved in osmoregulation, detoxification, chemosensation and stress responses, while proteomic analysis confirmed ...

The salivary alpha amylase awakening response is related to over-commitment
We assessed the relationship between physiological and psychological measures of workplace stress as measured by the effort-reward imbalance (ERI) model, with a seldom studied sample of owner-operator dairy farmers. Dairy farmers (N = 74) self-reported ERI, over-commitment (OC), dedication, and health then provided awakening saliva samples that were ...

Patients with oculopharyngeal muscular dystrophy exhibit disease‐specific salivary hyperviscosity that tracks with dysphagia severity and airway invasion. Non‐invasive chairside screening of salivary viscosity may enable clinicians to stratify aspiration risk during routine care to prevent severe pulmonary complications.

Systemic, Lifestyle and Environmental Modifying Factors in the Pathogenesis of Periodontitis
A variety of impacting factors in the pathogenesis of periodontitis exist, including systemic, lifestyle, and environmental factors. This review highlights the manifold mechanistic aspects of the link between the pathogenesis of periodontitis, addressing these numerous factors to supplement the long‐standing knowledge of the progression of the disease.
