Interaction of polydiallyldimethylammonium salts with iodine

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 2006
AbstractThe interaction between polydiallyldimethylammonium chloride (PDADMAC) and KI or KBr, followed by changes in conformation of macromolecules, coil compaction, and counterion exchange, was detected by means of turbidimetry and viscometry. In aqueous solutions at presence of KI, PDADMAC rapidly binds iodine by the formation of polymer–iodine ...

Perchlorate, iodine supplements, iodized salt and breast milk iodine content

Science of The Total Environment, 2012
This study was undertaken to determine if increasing maternal iodine intake through single dose tablets will decrease breast milk concentrations of the iodine-uptake inhibitor, perchlorate, through competitive inhibition. We also sought to determine if the timing of supplementation influences the fraction of iodine excreted in milk versus urine and to ...

Salt as a carrier of iodine in iodine deficient areas.

Schweizer Monatsschrift fur Zahnmedizin = Revue mensuelle suisse d'odonto-stomatologie = Rivista mensile svizzera di odontologia e stomatologia, 2005
In the past 80 years, salt has proved a reliable, safe, cheap and stable carrier to correct iodine deficiency on a large scale. Salt is available and consumed everywhere in the world. The per capita daily consumption (a decisive figure for calculating the iodine dosage) is roughly the same under the most varied cultural conditions, namely 8 to 12 grams.

Salt Fortification with Iodine: Sudan Situation Analysis

Nutrition and Health, 2009
Iodine deficiency disorders (IDD) constitute a severe public health problem in Sudan. IDD affects children and women throughout life. More than 2 out of 10 school age children have goiter. The prevalence reaches 40% in some regions of the country. Several interventional measures were introduced to control the IDD problem.
