Phosphoinositides and inositol phosphates as molecular glues

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol phosphates (IPs) and phosphoinositides (PIPs) regulate diverse eukaryotic processes. Beyond recruiting signaling proteins or acting as structural cofactors, recent studies suggest they mediate protein–protein interactions as natural molecular glues.

Scaffolding students’ thinking in mathematical investigations

open access: yes, 2009
This article describes some of the issues that teachers might encounter when scaffolding students’ thinking during mathematical investigations. It describes four episodes where a teacher’s scaffolding failed to support students’ mathematical thinking and

Hostile Scaffolding (MA Dissertation)

open access: yes, 2022
Cognitive scaffolding refers to external structures that change the cognitive demands of tasks. This dissertation begins by reviewing the literature around scaffolding—discussing key thinkers such as Hutchins (1995a), Clark (1997) and Sterelny (2003 ...

A Sociocultural Perspective on the Impact of Instructor Versus Peer Scaffolding Upon Lexical Digesting and Reading Perception

open access: yesSAGE Open
Based on a sociocultural theory and a plethora of experiential studies on the efficacy of scaffolding on foreign language learning, the goal of this research article is to examine the effectiveness of diverse types of scaffolding on university students ...

Parental speech and gesture scaffolding moderate the neural dynamics of parent-child synchrony

open access: yesDevelopmental Cognitive Neuroscience
Parent–child interactions foster children’s neurocognitive development through multiple pathways. A key pathway involves parental scaffolding, in which parents use speech, gesture, or their combination multimodally to guide children’s problem solving and

PARK(ing) time–How park deficiency affects the biological clock in a Drosophila model of Parkinson's disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Drosophila park mutants serve as a model for Parkinson's disease. We used this strain to investigate the connection between oxidative stress and the circadian clock mechanism. We showed that increased oxidative stress affects the physiology of pacemaker cells, disrupting their daily structural plasticity. Lack of rhythmic signaling from pacemaker cells

Étayage en ligne et développement de la conscience métacognitive

open access: yesALSIC: Apprentissage des Langues et Systèmes d'Information et de Communication, 2019
The following article describes a case study based on a telecollaboration between two groups of learners studying French as a second/foreign language. Supported by Activity Theory and the notion of scaffolding, we seek to analyse whether collaborative ...

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Scaffolding, multiliteracies, and reading circles

open access: yes, 2007
In this qualitative study, that took place in a coeducational government school in Western Australia, I adopt a social-constructivist perspective of learning (Rogoff, 1990; Vygotsky, 1986) to examine reading in an elementary classroom.
