Early Childhood Development: Wealth, the Nurturing Environment and Inequality First Results from the PRIDI Database [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This paper presents findings from the Regional Project on Child Development Indicators, PRIDI for its acronym in Spanish. PRIDI created a new tool, the Engle Scale, for evaluating development in children aged 24 to 59 months in four domains: cognition ...

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Country Program Evaluation: Panama (2005-2009) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This Country Program Evaluation (RE-359) covers the period from 2005 to 2009. OVE\u27s most significant recommendation stemming from the analysis is that, if this is one of the new administration\u27s priorities, the next strategy should design an ...

Development of a Regimen Comprehension Scale.

open access: yesNippon Ronen Igakkai Zasshi. Japanese Journal of Geriatrics, 1997
Whether elderly patients can take prescription drugs as directed by a physician is often unclear. So elderly patients could receive adequate instruction regarding their medications, we developed a regimen comprehension scale (RCS) with simple questions regarding information on dosage and administration.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Intelligent identification and warning method of disc cutter abnormal wear in TBM construction based on extreme learning machine

open access: yesScientific Reports
Abnormal cutter wear has a serious impact on TBM construction. If not found in time, it may lead to the cutterhead overall failure. Aiming at this problem, a general model and method to identify and warn the abnormal cutter wear using Extreme Learning ...
