Scavenger receptors in innate immunity
Scavenger receptors (SR) are expressed by myeloid cells (macrophages and dendritic cells) and certain endothelial cells. They play an important role in uptake and clearance of effete components, such as modified host molecules and apoptotic cells.

Platelet hyperreactivity, scavenger receptors and atherothrombosis [PDF]
Scavenger receptors (SRs) were initially identified as macrophage receptors that recognize modified lipoproteins. The lists of SRs, their ligands and cells expressing SRs have been significantly extended during the last two decades. What has become clear is that many ligands of SRs are present in vivo only in pathologic conditions.

Self‐Immolative Activatable Nanoassembly toward Immuno‐Photodynamic Therapy in TME
A quinone methide‐gated, self‐immolative, H2O2‐responsive nano‐photosensitizer (Pyz/PS) is developed for targeted immuno‐photodynamic therapy. Pyz/PS selectively activates within tumor microenvironments, restores photosensitizer activity, generates ROS, and depletes intracellular GSH, enhancing oxidative stress.

Nitrosylated high density lipoprotein is recognized by a scavenger receptor in rat liver.
In order to assess the presence of specific recognition sites for high density lipoprotein (HDL) in vivo, HDL was nitrosylated with tetranitromethane and the decay and liver uptake were compared with that of native HDL.

We introduce a nucleic acid nanoparticle (NANP) platform designed to be rrecognized by the human innate immune system in a regulated manner. By changing chemical composition while maintaining constant architectural parameters, we identify key determinants of immunorecognition enabling the rational design of NANPs with tunable immune activation profiles

The atypical chemokine receptor ACKR3/CXCR7 is a broad-spectrum scavenger for opioid peptides
Opioids modulate pain, anxiety and stress by activating four subtypes of opioid receptors. The authors show that atypical chemokine receptor 3 (ACKR3) is a scavenger for various endogenous opioid peptides regulating their availability without activating ...
