ATF3 upregulation in glia during Wallerian degeneration: differential expression in peripheral nerves and CNS white matter [PDF]
Background: Many changes in gene expression occur in distal stumps of injured nerves but the transcriptional control of these events is poorly understood.

Effect of PEA-OXA on neuropathic pain and functional recovery after sciatic nerve crush
Animal models of sciatic nerve injury are commonly used to study neuropathic pain as well as axon regeneration. Inflammation/immune response at the site of nerve lesion is known to be an essential trigger of the pathological changes that have a critical ...

Peroxisomal dysfunctions cause lysosomal storage and axonal Kv1 channel redistribution in peripheral neuropathy [PDF]
Impairment of peripheral nerve function is frequent in neurometabolic diseases, but mechanistically not well understood. Here, we report a novel disease mechanism and the finding that glial lipid metabolism is critical for axon function, independent of ...

Sciatic Nerve Palsy following Curved Periacetabular Osteotomy
Curved periacetabular osteotomy (CPO) is used for the treatment of dysplastic hips. Previous studies have reported satisfying outcomes and low rate of severe complications associated with this procedure; however, no case of postoperative sciatic nerve ...

Cement burn of the sciatic nerve [PDF]
We present the case of a 63-year-old woman who sustained an acrylic cement burn of the sciatic nerve at hip replacement. She was treated by resection of the damaged segment and grafting. Electron microscopy showed that the nerve was nearly normal 1 cm from the cement margin indicating that this is a safe level for resection.

Gpr126/Adgrg6 has Schwann cell autonomous and nonautonomous functions in peripheral nerve injury and repair [PDF]
Schwann cells (SCs) are essential for proper peripheral nerve development and repair, although the mechanisms regulating these processes are incompletely understood.

Epithelioid sarcoma involving sciatic nerve with lung metastasis and local recurrence: A case report
Involvement of a deep peripheral nerve by epithelioid sarcoma (ES) is extremely rare, especially in sciatic nerve. It is a highly aggressive malignant tumor with poor prognosis and comparatively difficult to detect and confirm diagnosis in early stage ...

Background: Peripheral nerve block (PNB) under echo guidance may not prevent intrafascicular anesthetic injection-induced nerve injury. This study investigated whether unintended needle piercing alone, or the intrafascicular nerve injectant could induce ...
