A study on the role of sea ice in the nitrous oxide cycle in the Prydz Bay, Antarctica
N2O is one of the most important greenhouse gases and ozone depletor, which was a matter of more and more concerned. The Southern Ocean was considered as one of the most important N2O source and was believed to account for ~1/4 of oceanic budget. However,

Numerical study of sea ice dynamics and wave-ice interactions in the marginal ice zone
The Marginal Ice Zone (MIZ) is a highly dynamic region between the open ocean and the inner ice pack. The ice over this region is subjected to waves, introducing new forces but also changing the ice from a cohesive material to a mobile collection of ...

Golgi enzymes are retrieved from the plasma membrane to the trans‐Golgi network
Golgi enzymes are traditionally considered resident proteins retained within the Golgi apparatus. Here, we demonstrate that a subset transiently reaches the cell surface and is subsequently retrieved to the trans‐Golgi network via retrograde transport. Using a nanobody‐based toolkit, we uncover a dynamic trafficking cycle of several Golgi enzymes.

Encapsulins are protein nanocompartments that play an important role in iron storage. In the Myxococcus xanthus encapsulin system, two cargo proteins called EncB and EncC contribute to iron mineralization. Here, we show that EncB and EncC generate iron‐containing minerals with distinct chemical compositions, suggesting that the composition of stored ...

Gypsum and hydrohalite dynamics in sea ice brines [PDF]
Abstract Mineral authigenesis from their dissolved sea salt matrix is an emergent feature of sea ice brines, fuelled by dramatic equilibrium solubility changes in the large sub-zero temperature range of this cryospheric system on the surface of high latitude oceans.

Voronoi Dynamics Simulation of Development of Lamellar Microstructure in Sea Ice [PDF]
Developments of sea ice polycrystals from the sea surface are simulated in two-dimensional approximation by combining numerical methods for crystal growth, salinity diffusion and flux of heat. An anisotropic growth of ice crystals from a number of nuclei

The Shewanella oneidensis Fic enzyme SoFic targets the switch‐I region of EF‐Tu for AMPylation
Fic enzymes mediate diverse post‐translational modifications across all domains of life, including AMPylation. Prokaryotic EF‐Tu can be AMPylated and deAMPylated by the conserved Fic enzyme SoFic. Structural and biochemical approaches were used to characterize the effect of AMPylation on EF‐Tu, SoFic's enzymatic activities, and the enzyme‐target ...

A large-scale high-resolution numerical model for sea-ice fragmentation dynamics [PDF]
Forecasts of sea-ice motion and fragmentation are of vital importance for all human interactions with sea ice, ranging from those involving indigenous hunters to shipping in polar regions.

Abstract The study analyzes the sensitivity and memory of the Southern Hemisphere coupled climate system to increased Antarctic sea ice (ASI), taking into account the persistence of the sea ice maxima in the current climate. The mechanisms involved in restoring the climate balance under two sets of experiments, which differ in regard to ...
