The nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technique was used as analytical tool to determine the complete metabolic profiling of sea bass extracts: water-soluble metabolites belonging to different classes such as sugars, amino acids, dipeptides and organic acids as well as metabolites soluble in organic solvent such as lipids, sterols and fatty acids were ...

Mechanisms of Salinity Control in Sea Bass
Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering, 2018Sea bass can regulate the concentration of Na+, K+, and Cl-, among other ions, in their blood, skin, gills, and kidney. Therefore, the salinity of the water does not have a great influence on their metabolism, and sea bass can live in both sea and freshwater in accordance with the salt concentration. Most salinity control occurs in the gills, primarily

Sex Allocation in Hermaphroditic Sea Basses
The American Naturalist, 1991Local mate competition theory has emphasized the importance of sperm competition in determining individual patterns of sex allocation in outcrossing hermaphrodites. In this article I develop a more general model of local mate competition that incorporates fertilization efficiency. I use this model to predict interspecific differences in sex allocation.
