Changing Salinity Gradients in the Baltic Sea As a Consequence of Altered Freshwater Budgets

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2019
Climate change is expected to enhance the hydrological cycle in northern latitudes reducing the salinity in the Baltic Sea, a land‐locked marginal sea with a large catchment area located in northern Europe.

Cell surface interactome analysis identifies TSPAN4 as a negative regulator of PD‐L1 in melanoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using cell surface proximity biotinylation, we identified tetraspanin TSPAN4 within the PD‐L1 interactome of melanoma cells. TSPAN4 negatively regulates PD‐L1 expression and lateral mobility by limiting its interaction with CMTM6 and promoting PD‐L1 degradation.

The Inversion of Three-Dimensional Ocean Temperature and Salinity Fields for the Assimilation of Satellite Observations

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
The lack of dimensionality of ocean observations makes it difficult to utilize multi-scale data assimilation to correct model errors with limited observations.

The last interglacial in the northern North Atlantic and adjacent areas: evidence for a more zonal climate than during the Holocene [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We document climate conditions from the last interglacial optimum (LIO) or marine isotope stage 5e (MIS 5e) from terrestrial and oceanic sedimentary archives.

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Analysis of a 44-year hindcast for the Mediterranean Sea: comparison with altimetry and in situ observations

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2011
We study the interannual and seasonal variability in the Mediterranean Sea over the period 1958-2004 by comparing a numerical simulation (the 1/4º ORCA-R025 G70 model run, ‘ORCA’ hereafter) with altimetry and the MEDAR temperature and salinity database ...

Therapeutic strategies for MMAE‐resistant bladder cancer through DPP4 inhibition

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We established monomethyl auristatin E (MMAE)‐resistant bladder cancer (BC) cell lines by exposure to progressively increasing concentrations of MMAE in vitro. RNA sequencing showed DPP4 expression was increased in MMAE‐resistant BC cells. Both si‐DPP4 and the DPP4 inhibitor sitagliptin suppressed the viability of MMAE‐resistant BC cells.

Evaporation induced convection enhances mixing in the upper ocean

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2023
The upper ocean surface layer is directly affected by the air-sea fluxes. The diurnal variations in these fluxes also cause the upper ocean mixed layer turbulence and mixing to diurnally vary. The underlying thermohaline structure also varies accordingly

On the calculation of air-sea fluxes of CO2 in the presence of temperature and salinity gradients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The presence of vertical temperature and salinity gradients in the upper ocean and the occur- rence of variations in temperature and salinity on time scales from hours to many years complicate the calculation of the flux of carbon dioxide (CO2) across ...
