Carbon Footprint Assessment of a Seabass Farm on the Mediterranean Moroccan Coast

open access: yesCroatian Journal of Fisheries, 2022
The present study assesses the carbon footprint of the only operating marine fish farm in Morocco. Five years of data were used to assess its carbon footprint, following ISO/TS 14067 standard, the PAS 2050 and the IPCC 2006 guidelines.

Impacts of Ocean Acidification on Reproduction and Early Life Development in Marine Teleost Fish—A Synthesis

open access: yesFish and Fisheries, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Ocean acidification (OA) remains a major and underexplored threat to marine fishes, particularly regarding reproductive physiology and early life stages (ELS). Although research over the past 15 years has documented diverse OA effects, substantial knowledge gaps persist.

The Replacement of Fish Meal with Poultry By-Product Meal and Insect Exuviae: Effects on Growth Performance, Gut Health and Microbiota of the European Seabass, Dicentrarchus labrax

open access: yesMicroorganisms
This study addressed the urgent need for sustainable protein sources in aquaculture due to the depletion of marine resources and rising costs. Animal protein sources, particularly poultry by-product meal (PBM) and insect exuviae meal, were investigated ...

Skin Culturable Microbiota in Farmed European Seabass (Dicentrarchuslabrax) in Two Aquacultures with and without Antibiotic Use

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2022
This study examined culturable skin microbiota that was associated with farmed European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax). Healthy European seabass were sampled during summer commercial harvest from one conventional fish farm where antibiotics are used, and

Recompression Improves Release Success in Pollack (Pollachius pollachius): A Step Towards Assessing Post Release Mortality in a Recreational Fishery

open access: yesFisheries Management and Ecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The recreational fishery for pollack (Pollachius pollachius) in the northeast Atlantic is impacted by the species' high sensitivity to barotrauma. When captured at depth and brought to the surface, gas expansion within the peritoneal cavity can cause a variety of injuries and hinder release.

Estimating Total Post‐Release Mortality in a Boat‐Based Recreational Fishery

open access: yesFisheries Management and Ecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Catch‐and‐release angling is widespread in marine recreational fisheries resulting from the implementation of enforced minimum legal sizes and increasing uptake of voluntary release. This makes recreational fisheries selective, with high release rates in certain cases.

Physiological Response of Spotted Seabass (Lateolabrax maculatus) to Different Dietary Available Phosphorus Levels and Water Temperature: Changes in Growth, Lipid Metabolism, Antioxidant Status and Intestinal Microbiota

open access: yesAntioxidants, 2023
A 10-week growth experiment was conducted to assess the physiological response of spotted seabass (Lateolabrax maculatus) raised at moderate (27 °C) and high temperatures (33 °C) to different dietary available phosphorus (P) levels.

Heritability of Boldness and Hypoxia Avoidance in European Seabass, Dicentrarchus labrax [PDF]

open access: yesPLOS ONE, 2016

Acute freshwater CO2 exposure does not impair seawater transfer in three different sizes of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) subjected to different photoperiod manipulations

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract There is a growing interest in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) aquaculture to extend the time fish are reared in freshwater (FW) recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), producing larger FW salmon that can then be induced to undergo smoltification before transfer into marine net pens for grow‐out and harvest.
