Malnutrition prevalence at hospital admission and discharge based on the two‐step Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition: A prospective observational study in Malawian adult patients

open access: yesNutrition in Clinical Practice, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective To assess the prevalence of malnutrition at hospital admission and discharge and examine factors associated with malnutrition at discharge among adult patients. Study Design A prospective observational study was conducted at two public referral hospitals in Malawi, targeting adult patients aged 18–65 years (n = 418).

Diversity and sequence motifs of the bacterial SecA protein motor

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Biomembranes, 2020
SecA is an essential component of the Sec protein secretion pathway in bacteria. Secretory proteins targeted to the Sec pathway by their N-terminal signal peptide bind to SecA, which couples binding and hydrolysis of adenosine triphosphate with movement of the secretory protein across the membrane-embedded SecYEG protein translocon.

Proteome Analysis of Corynebacterium diphtheriae–Macrophage Interaction

open access: yesPROTEOMICS, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Contact of Corynebacterium diphtheriae with macrophages induces adaptations on both bacterial and cellular sides. The study presented here was aiming to shed light on the simultaneous intracellular adaptation of the bacteria and changes in the proteome of the phagocytes in response to the internalization of C. diphtheriae.

Role of a Conserved Glutamate Residue in the \u3cem\u3eEscherichia coli\u3c/em\u3e SecA ATPase Mechanism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Escherichia coli SecA uses ATP to drive the transport of proteins across cell membranes. Glutamate 210 in the “DEVD” Walker B motif of the SecA ATP-binding site has been proposed as the catalytic base for ATP hydrolysis (Hunt, J. F., Weinkauf, S., Henry,

Site-specific proteolysis of the Escherichia coli SecA protein in vivo [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1996
A seven-amino-acid cleavage site specific for tobacco etch virus (TEV) protease was introduced into SecA at two separate positions after amino acids 195 and 252. Chromosomal wild-type secA was replaced by these secA constructs. Simultaneous expression of TEV protease led to cleavage of both SecA derivatives.

Identifying Subcellular Structure Components in Escherichia Coli by Crosslinking and SEC‐MS

open access: yesPROTEOMICS, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Cells are comprised of a broad spectrum of structures that compartmentalize biochemical and signaling mechanisms. These structures can be comprised of many biomolecules, but especially lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids. Techniques are limited to quantify or discover new subcellular structures.

Mobilização de reservas durante a germinação das sementes e crescimento das plântulas de Caesalpinia peltophoroides Benth. (Leguminosae-Caesalpinoideae) Mobilization of the reserves during germination of seeds and growth of seedlings of Caesalpinia peltophoroides Benth. (Leguminosae-Caesalpinoideae)

Temporal dynamics in functional fruit traits of native and invasive fleshy fruited plants in subtropical Andean forests

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Fruits encompass the energetic and material flow between both interacting parties in frugivore‐mediated seed dispersal. Since fruit traits matter in frugivores' foraging decisions, the temporal dynamics of fruit traits might influence interaction outcomes.

Protein translocation:what’s the problem? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We came together in Leeds to commemorate and celebrate the life and achievements of Prof. Stephen Baldwin. For many years we, together with Sheena Radford and Roman Tuma (colleagues also of the University of Leeds), have worked together on the problem of
