Ultrafast Structural Dynamics of BlsA, a Photoreceptor from the Pathogenic Bacterium Acinetobacter baumannii [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Acinetobacter baumannii is an important human pathogen that can form biofilms and persist under harsh environmental conditions. Biofilm formation and virulence are modulated by blue light, which is thought to be regulated by a BLUF protein, BlsA.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

PICALM::MLLT10 translocated leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This comprehensive review of PICALM::MLLT10 translocated acute leukemia provides an in‐depth review of the structure and function of CALM, AF10, and the fusion oncoprotein (1). The multifaceted molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis, including nucleocytoplasmic shuttling (2), epigenetic modifications (3), and disruption of endocytosis (4), are then ...

Analysis and Control Parameters Optimization of Wind Turbines Participating in Power System Primary Frequency Regulation with the Consideration of Secondary Frequency Drop

open access: yesEnergies
With the increasing integration of wind energy into power systems, maintaining frequency stability has become a significant challenge. To address the issue of secondary frequency drop caused by wind turbines exiting the primary frequency regulation of ...

Inertia and Droop Frequency Control Strategy of Doubly-Fed Induction Generator Based on Rotor Kinetic Energy and Supercapacitor

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
The large-scale application of wind power eases the shortage of conventional energy, but it also brings great hidden danger to the stability and security of the power grid because wind power has no ability for frequency regulation.

Providing power reserve for secondary grid frequency regulation of offshore wind farms through yaw control

open access: yesWind Energy, 2023
The ability to significantly contribute to the frequency regulation and provide valuable ancillary services to the transmission system operator (TSO) is one of the present wind farm (WF) challenges, due to the limitations of wind speed forecasting and ...

Optimal Primary Frequency Regulation Control Strategy for Wind Farms to Prevent Secondary Frequency Drop

open access: yesAdvances in Computer and Materials Scienc Research
As the share of wind power in the power generation structure increases, the demand for effective frequency regulation using wind turbines also grows. Wind turbines typically participate in frequency regulation by reducing rotor speed. However, extended operation at low speeds can lead to efficiency losses, which necessitate measures to disengage from ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Distributed watermarking for secure control of microgrids under replay attacks

open access: yes, 2018
The problem of replay attacks in the communication network between Distributed Generation Units (DGUs) of a DC microgrid is examined. The DGUs are regulated through a hierarchical control architecture, and are networked to achieve secondary control ...

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.
