Secondary damage to hair follicles in full thickness skin autografts
Archiv fr Dermatologische Forschung, 1974The hair root pattern in full-thickness skin autografts in guinea pigs was evaluated on the basis of findings in a total of 34 grafts. Between the 4th and 12th day after surgery the proportion of anagen hairs was found elevated and increasing in all cases.

The Ordos fine-wool sheep is a high-quality breed in China that produces superior natural textiles and raw materials such as wool and lamb meat. However, compared to the Australian Merino sheep, there is still a gap in terms of the wool fiber fineness and wool yield.

A representative phenotype of patients with tricho-rhino-phalangeal syndrome (TRPS) is sparse hair. To understand the developmental defects of these patient's hair follicles, we analyzed the development of hair follicles histologically and biochemically using Trps1 deficient (KO) mice.

The cause of primary and secondary damage to hair follicles on full thickness skin autografts
Archiv fr Dermatologische Forschung, 1974Heat loss by radiation and conduction and oxygen release were measured on full thickness skin autografts in 46 guinea pigs on the seventh postoperative day. Using the same animals, the amount of hair on the graft was determined 3 months after surgery.

A supply of sulphur-containing amino acids is essential for the growth of hair fibre in animals. The main sulphur-containing amino acid quantitatively required for the synthesis of fibre protein is cystine or its monomeric form cysteine, which may be absorbed from the digestive tract or converted from methionine via the ...

In an accompanying paper it was shown that a spatial prepattern mechanism based on a biochemical reaction referred to as a reaction-diffusion (RD) system is able to account for many aspects of the initiation and development of primary (P) wool follicles. In this paper the same RD system is applied to the initiation and development of original secondary

Enzymes catalysing the conversion of methionine to cysteine via the transulphuration pathway are found in liver and kidney of sheep (Radcliffe and Eggan, 1974), but their presence has not been established in the hair follicle. The aims of this study were (a) to establish the presence of transulphuration and (b) to determine quantitatively the ...

The effect of IGF-I on the growth of secondary hair follicles of the Cashmere goat in vitro
Proceedings of the British Society of Animal Science, 1997Factors regulating the growth of Cashmere fibre and the hair follicle cycle are poorly understood. Insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) or insulin at higher concentrations, have been shown to stimulate in vitro growth of human hair follicles (Philpott et al, 1994). The role of such mitogens in the production of cashmere fibre by the Cashmere goat has not

ABSTRACT Large full-thickness (LFT) skin wounds remain a major clinical challenge, and progress in regenerative medicine has been limited by poor translation from animal models to humans. A key limitation is that commonly used species such as mice, rats, and rabbits are loose-skinned, whereas humans are tight-skinned with distinct skin ...
