Soybean Seed Counting Based on Pod Image Using Two-Column Convolution Neural Network

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
China’s soybean supply and demand are seriously imbalanced. It is crucial to improve the level of soybean breeding. Hundred-grain weight is one of the most essential phenotypic parameters for crop breeding.

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Ecophysiologic Indices of Wheat as Influenced by Plant Density and Application of Herbicide [PDF]

open access: yesIkufīziyuluzhī-i Giyāhān-i Zirā̒ī, 2017
To evaluate the effects of application of herbicides and different plant densities on seed yield, weed density and chlorophyll content in wheat (cv. Bahar), a split plot experiment based on randomized complete blocks design with three replications was ...

Dual targeting of RET and SRC synergizes in RET fusion‐positive cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Despite the strong activity of selective RET tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), resistance of RET fusion‐positive (RET+) lung cancer and thyroid cancer frequently occurs and is mainly driven by RET‐independent bypass mechanisms. Son et al. show that SRC TKIs significantly inhibit PAK and AKT survival signaling and enhance the efficacy of RET TKIs in ...

Integrated Rice-Duck Farming Decreases Soil Seed Bank and Weed Density in a Paddy Field

open access: yesAgronomy, 2019
Coupled cropping-breeding modes have been highly recommended due to their ecological and sustainable nature. Integrated rice-duck farming is a typical ecological planting system in rice paddy fields and has been widely popularized in Asia where a ...

Strength through diversity: how cancers thrive when clones cooperate

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Intratumor heterogeneity can offer direct benefits to the tumor through cooperation between different clones. In this review, Kuiken et al. discuss existing evidence for clonal cooperativity to identify overarching principles, and highlight how novel technological developments could address remaining open questions.

The Role of Environmental Heterogeneity in the Seed Rain Pattern

open access: yesFloresta e Ambiente
We focus on understanding the influence of environmental variables on ecological processes, and such a focus promotes an integrated view of forest ecological patterns.

Next‐generation proteomics improves lung cancer risk prediction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This is one of very few studies that used prediagnostic blood samples from participants of two large population‐based cohorts. We identified, evaluated, and validated an innovative protein marker model that outperformed an established risk prediction model and criteria employed by low‐dose computed tomography in lung cancer screening trials.

Engineering properties of sunflower seed: Effect of dehulling and moisture content

open access: yesCogent Food & Agriculture, 2016
The study diagnosed engineering properties on varying moisture content of sunflower seed and kernel from 7.6 to 25% (wet basis). On increasing moisture, dimensional values increased for both seed and kernel.

Density and context dependence of seed mortality in a tropical forest: indirect interactions among trees mediated by shared predators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
6openThe Janzen-Connell hypothesis is one of the leading explanations for tree species coexistence in tropical forests. Janzen-Connell propose a disproportional high offspring mortality due to high density of specialized predators and pathogens near ...
