Fisher-Wright model with deterministic seed bank and selection
Seed banks are a common characteristics to many plant species, which allow storage of genetic diversity in the soil as dormant seeds for various periods of time.

Optimizing the selection of quantitative traits in plant breeding using simulation
This review summarizes findings from simulation studies on quantitative traits in plant breeding and translates these insights into practical schemes. As agricultural productivity faces growing challenges, plant breeding is central to addressing these ...

Reduction of traits for genetic evaluation of linear described traits in the Old Kladruber horse
The estimated genetic parameters were used for selection of important conformation traits and reduction in the number of the described characteristics. For reduction in the number of described traits from the original 36 to 24, the traits were selected ...

Direct selection on genetic robustness revealed in the yeast transcriptome. [PDF]
Evolutionary theory predicts that organisms should evolve the ability to produce high fitness phenotypes in the face of environmental disturbances (environmental robustness) or genetic mutations (genetic robustness).

Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

The statistical mechanics of a polygenic characterunder stabilizing selection, mutation and drift
By exploiting an analogy between population genetics and statistical mechanics, we study the evolution of a polygenic trait under stabilizing selection, mutation, and genetic drift.

The Genetical Theory of Natural Selection [PDF]
> So melancholy a neglect of Darwin's work suggests reflections upon the use of those rare and precious possessions of man—great books. It was, we believe, the custom of the late Professor Freeman to warn his students that mastery of one great book was worth any amount of knowledge of many ...

In this study, we present the structure of AcrIE8.1, a previously uncharacterized anti‐CRISPR protein that inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system. Through a combination of structural and biochemical analyses, we demonstrate that AcrIE8.1 directly binds to the Cas11 subunit of the Cascade complex to inhibit the CRISPR‐Cas system.

Genomic predictions improve the performance of clonal cultivars in oil palm. [PE0834] [PDF]
Prediction of clonal genetic value is among the difficulties of the genetic improvement of oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) yield. Presently, clonal selection requires two stages of phenotypic selection (PS): preselection on the phenotypic values of ...
