A distributed and morphology-independent strategy for adaptive locomotion in self-reconfigurable modular robots [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In this paper, we present a distributed reinforcement learning strategy for morphology-independent life-long gait learning for modular robots. All modules run identical controllers that locally and independently optimize their action selection based on ...

A stochastic framework for secure reconfiguration of active distribution networks

open access: yesIET Generation, Transmission & Distribution, 2022
Automatic reconfiguration is one of the key actions in self‐healing distribution networks. In these networks, after detecting and isolating the faulted portion, an automatic reconfiguration procedure is performed to restore the maximum possible affected ...

A Vision-based Scheme for Kinematic Model Construction of Re-configurable Modular Robots

open access: yes, 2017
Re-configurable modular robotic (RMR) systems are advantageous for their reconfigurability and versatility. A new modular robot can be built for a specific task by using modules as building blocks.

Selective and Precise Editing of Digital Polymers Through Parallel or Series Toehold‐Mediated Strand Displacement

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A sequence‐encoded supramolecular construct containing two accessible toeholds is developed herein for enabling multiple editing operations. By introducing specific input strands, it is possible to selectively erase or rewrite digital content through parallel or series toehold‐mediated strand displacement (PTMSD or STMSD).

Upgrading a Shrouded Wind Turbine with a Self-Adaptive Flanged Diffuser

open access: yesEnergies, 2015
In this paper, a self-adaptive flange is proposed for the wind turbine shrouded by a flanged diffuser to reduce the wind loads acting on the flanged diffuser at high wind velocities.

Applying tropos to socio-technical system design and runtime configuration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Recent trends in Software Engineering have introduced the importance of reconsidering the traditional idea of software design as a socio-tecnical problem, where human agents are integral part of the system along with hardware and software components ...

Photoswitching Conduction in Framework Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This mini‐review summarizes recent advances in state‐of‐the‐art proton and electron conduction in framework materials that can be remotely and reversibly switched on and off by light. It discusses the various photoswitching conduction mechanisms and the strategies employed to enhance photoswitched conductivity.

Self-reconfigurable multicell batteries

open access: yes2011 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition, 2011
The traditional multicell battery design usually employs a fixed configuration to connect multiple cells in series and parallel during operation in order to achieve the required voltage and current. However, this fixed configuration results in low reliability, low fault tolerance, and nonoptimal energy conversion efficiency. This paper proposes a novel

Electrochemically Driven Dissipative Growth of Affinity Hydrogels for Bioresponsive Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Voltage pulses drive the growth and reinforcement of hydrogel films under dissipative conditions. This biocompatible strategy enables efficient integration of affinity ligands into the hydrogel matrix, enhancing the selective capture of growth factors and allowing precise temporal control over their release, making them well‐suited as adaptive ...
