Decline in human sperm counts during the past 50 years? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
There is widespread concern that environmental pollutants acting as xenoestrogens may affect human fertility adversely. Whether this has already made an impact on human fertility worldwide remains debatable at the present stage.

Spectral gaps, additive energy, and a fractal uncertainty principle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We obtain an essential spectral gap for n-dimensional convex co-compact hyperbolic manifolds with the dimension δ of the limit set close to n-1/ 2. The size of the gap is expressed using the additive energy of stereographic projections of the limit set ...

Comparison of Spermatozoa Quality in Male Smokers and Nonsmokers of Iranian Infertile Couples [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Fertility and Sterility, 2011
Background Smoking has a negative effect on fertility and sperm quality. This study was designed to evaluate the effects of smoking on sperm quality and the related parameters such as sperm concentration, morphology and motility.

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Assessment of semen parameters after microsurgical varicocelectomy in men from infertile couples

open access: yesВестник урологии, 2023
Introduction. Varicocele is one of the frequently identified and corrected causes of male subfertility. However, varicocele correction results in improved sperm quality only in 60 – 70% of subfertile men.

Dual PI3K/AKT and CDK4/6 inhibition reveals selective sensitivity in an SHH medulloblastoma stem cell model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Targeted therapy was evaluated in SHH medulloblastoma using neuroepithelial stem cell (NES) and tumor‐derived NES‐like (tNES) models in 2D monolayers and 3D spheroids. PI3K, AKT, and CDK4/6 inhibitors had minimal effects in NES but markedly reduced viability and growth and induced apoptosis in tNES cells, revealing distinct therapeutic vulnerabilities.

Transcriptional profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles from prebiopsy prostate cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RNA profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs) from blood samples of men undergoing prostate biopsy identifies transcripts associated with clinically significant prostate cancer. Integrative analysis with public tumor datasets links EV‐derived gene signatures to tumor stage and progression‐free survival, highlighting CASP3, XRCC2, and RIT1 ...

Asymptotics of Linear Waves and Resonances with Applications to Black Holes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We describe asymptotic behavior of linear waves on Kerr(–de Sitter) black holes and more general Lorentzian manifolds, providing a quantitative analysis of the ringdown phenomenon.
