Force Control of a Semi-Active Damper

Vehicle System Dynamics, 1995
SUMMARY Two strategies are investigated for controlling a semi-active damper to track a prescribed force demand signal: (i) ‘open loop’ control, using a model of the damping force versus velocity characteristics; and (ii) force feedback (closed loop) control.

Semi-active Control

2011
Active control systems rely entirely on external power to operate the actuators and supply the control forces. In many applications, such systems require a large power source, which makes them costly (this is why there has been very few cars equipped with fully active suspensions) and vulnerable to power failure (this is why the civil engineering ...

Modelling of magnetorheological semi-active suspension system controlled by semi-active damping force estimator

International Journal of Computer Applications in Technology, 2011
This paper presents the simulation study of magnetorheological semi-active suspension system controlled by a new proposed algorithm. The control algorithm named as Semi-Active Damping Force Estimator (SADE) is proposed to control the operations of the magnetorheological damper.

Semi-active suspension control using "fast" model predictive control

Proceedings of the 2005, American Control Conference, 2005., 2005
The problem considered in this paper is the design and the analysis of a control strategy, for semi-active suspensions in road vehicles, based on model predictive control (MPC) techniques. The computed control law, using predictive techniques aims to optimize, the suspension performance, by minimizing a quadratic cost function while ensuring that the ...

Semi-active control devices in structural control implementation

The Structural Design of Tall and Special Buildings, 2005
A semi-active control device for structural control implementations is presented and discussed in this paper. Based on two passive control devices, the mass pump and the hydraulic mass system, a new passive control system, the mass damper pump (MDP), is introduced.

Structural control via semi-active and hybrid control

Proceedings of the 1997 American Control Conference (Cat. No.97CH36041), 1997
A combination of standard active control and low power (often called 'semi-active') devices for control of buildings under seismic excitation is presented. Performance, stability, actuator saturation, and design considerations are among the topics discussed.

Semi-active control of a thin piezoactuated structure

2000
Vibration damping of a cantilever plate is achieved by using a piezoelectric element simultaneously as passive single-mode device and active broad-band actuator. Control strategies are designed on the basis of a modal model of the coupled electro-mechanical structure. This model is obtained by using a suitable finite-element formulation together with a

Vibration control using semi-active friction damping

1999 European Control Conference (ECC), 1999
Large space structures often consist of truss elements which are connected by bolted joints. The dry friction energy dissipation in these junctions turns out to be a major source of damping. For vibration suppression, the joints are designed such that the normal force to a frictional interface is controlled which improves damping performance.

A new semi-active variational based damping control

2014 IEEE/ASME 10th International Conference on Mechatronic and Embedded Systems and Applications (MESA), 2014
Semi-active damping control of oscillating devices and structures is a challenging field that conjugates a relative actuators simplicity together with the chance of studying new algorithms and system architectures. This paper proposes an overview of the investigation recently developed by the authors in the field of semi-active damping using the ...

Modelling and Control of a Semi-active Suspension System of Motorcycle

2018 International Conference on Electronics, Control, Optimization and Computer Science (ICECOCS), 2018
The suspension is one of the most significant components of the vehicle, thus, the performance of vehicles and comfort of the ride are typically affected by the characteristics of the suspension. In addition, this later serves to decrease the vibrations and forces caused by the Irregularities of the road.
