Saving Sensitivity

open access: yesThe Philosophical Quarterly, 2021
AbstractSensitivity has sometimes been thought to be a highly epistemologically significant property, serving as a proxy for a kind of responsiveness to the facts that ensure that the truth of our beliefs isn’t just a lucky coincidence. But it's an imperfect proxy: there are various well-known cases in which sensitivity-based anti-luck conditions ...

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

Optimization of Nanowell-Based Label-Free Impedance Biosensor Based on Different Nanowell Structures

open access: yesBiosensors
Nanowell-based impedance-based label-free biosensors have demonstrated significant advantages in sensitivity, simplicity, and accuracy for detecting cancer biomarkers and macromolecules compared to conventional impedance-based biosensors.

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Experimental Investigation on the Effect of Coil Shape on Planar Eddy Current Sensor Characteristic for Blade Tip Clearance

open access: yesSensors
Given the increasing application of eddy current sensors for measuring turbine tip clearance in aero engines, enhancing the performance of these sensors is essential for improving measurement accuracy.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Evaluation and Validation on Sensitivity of Near-Infrared Diffuse Reflectance in Non-Invasive Human Blood Glucose Measurement

open access: yesSensors
In non-invasive blood glucose measurement, the sensitivity of glucose-induced optical signals within human tissue is a crucial reference point. This study evaluates the sensitivity of glucose-induced diffuse reflectance in the 1000–1700 nm range.

Consumer price sensitivity in health insurance [PDF]

open access: yes
This CPB Discussion Paper presents new estimates for the price elasticity of the residual demand for health insurance. This elasticity measures the loss in market share of a health insurer as a consequence of a unilateral increase in price, assuming ...

Noise sensitivity and Voronoi percolation

open access: yes, 2018
In this paper we study noise sensitivity and threshold phenomena for Poisson Voronoi percolation on $\mathbb{R}^2$. In the setting of Boolean functions, both threshold phenomena and noise sensitivity can be understood via the study of randomized ...

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.
