The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Part 1: Simple Definition and Calculation of Accuracy, Sensitivity and Specificity

open access: yesArchives of Academic Emergency Medicine, 2018
Emergency physicians, like other specialists, are faced with different patients and various situations each day. They have to use ancillary diagnostic tools like laboratory tests and imaging studies to be able to manage them.

CT colonography has low sensitivity but high specificity in the detection of internal hemorrhoids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
PURPOSEWe aimed to evaluate the diagnostic performance of computed tomography colonography (CTC) in the detection of internal hemorrhoids.METHODSThree gastroenterologists systematically reported on the presence of internal hemorrhoids in patients with ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Defining ADHD Symptom Persistence in Adulthood: Optimizing Sensitivity and Specificity

open access: yesJournal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry and Allied Disciplines, 2016
Objective Longitudinal studies of children diagnosed with ADHD report widely ranging ADHD persistence rates in adulthood (5-75%). This study documents how information source (parent vs. self report), method (rating scale vs.
