The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

On separable Schr\"odinger equations

open access: yes, 1999
We classify (1+3)-dimensional Schr\"odinger equations for a particle interacting with the electromagnetic field that are solvable by the method of separation of variables. As a result, we get eleven classes of the electromagnetic vector potentials of the

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Fourier, Gegenbauer and Jacobi Expansions for a Power-Law Fundamental Solution of the Polyharmonic Equation and Polyspherical Addition Theorems

open access: yesSymmetry, Integrability and Geometry: Methods and Applications, 2013
We develop complex Jacobi, Gegenbauer and Chebyshev polynomial expansions for the kernels associated with power-law fundamental solutions of the polyharmonic equation on d-dimensional Euclidean space.

Separation of variables for soliton equations via their binary constrained flows

open access: yes, 1999
Binary constrained flows of soliton equations admitting $2\times 2$ Lax matrices have 2N degrees of freedom, which is twice as many as degrees of freedom in the case of mono-constrained flows.

Symmetries and Separation of Variables

open access: yesJournal of Nonlinear Mathematical Physics
Abstract In this paper, we look at the method of separation of variables of a PDE from its symmetry transformation point of view. Specifically, we discuss the relation between the existence of additively and multiplicatively separated variables of a PDE, and the form of its symmetry operators.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

On Gammelgaard's formula for a star product with separation of variables

open access: yes, 2012
We show that Gammelgaard's formula expressing a star product with separation of variables on a pseudo-Kaehler manifold in terms of directed graphs without cycles is equivalent to an inversion formula for an operator on a formal Fock space.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These
