Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

Multi-objective optimization of process parameters in plastic injection molding using variable pressure profile

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2017
Process parameters in plastic injection molding (PIM) such as packing pressure, melt temperature and cooling time have a direct influence on the product quality and it is important to determine the optimal process parameters for the high product quality ...

Determination of back-pressure profile and slide motion of servo press in cold forging using sequential approximate optimization

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2020
Forging is one of the important manufacturing technologies to produce various mechanical components with high productivity. Recently, servo press that can control the back-pressure and the slide motion during the forging has attracted attention for high ...

Designing Lookahead Policies for Sequential Decision Problems in Transportation and Logistics

open access: yesIEEE Open Journal of Intelligent Transportation Systems, 2022
There is a wide range of sequential decision problems in transportation and logistics that require dealing with uncertainty. There are four classes of policies that we can draw on for different types of decisions, but many problems in transportation and ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

“Deep reinforcement learning for engineering design through topology optimization of elementally discretized design domains”

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2022
Advances in machine learning algorithms and increased computational efficiencies give engineers new capabilities and tools to apply to engineering design. Machine learning models can approximate complex functions and, therefore, can be useful for various

Optimal designs for rational function regression

open access: yes, 2011
We consider optimal non-sequential designs for a large class of (linear and nonlinear) regression models involving polynomials and rational functions with heteroscedastic noise also given by a polynomial or rational weight function.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Globally Optimal Energy-Efficient Power Control and Receiver Design in Wireless Networks

open access: yes, 2017
The characterization of the global maximum of energy efficiency (EE) problems in wireless networks is a challenging problem due to the non-convex nature of investigated problems in interference channels.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.
