On designing a sequential based EWMA structure for efficient process monitoring

open access: yesJournal of Taibah University for Science, 2020
Control chart is a popular technique that is widely used in statistical process control to identify any possible deviations from a stable state of a process. Shewhart charts are famous for identifying larger shifts, while cumulative sum and exponentially

Recent innovations in adaptive trial designs: A review of design opportunities in translational research

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Translational Science, 2023
Clinical trials are constantly evolving in the context of increasingly complex research questions and potentially limited resources. In this review article, we discuss the emergence of “adaptive” clinical trials that allow for the preplanned modification

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

La naturaleza no lineal de los funcionamientos inferenciales: Un estudio empírico con base en el humor gráfico

open access: yesAvances en Psicología Latinoamericana, 2012
This paper is meant to open the question of whether inferential functioning has a dynamic non lineal system structure. Inferential functioning has been studied from four graphic jokes.

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Statistical properties of minimal sufficient balance and minimization as methods for controlling baseline covariate imbalance at the design stage of sequential clinical trials

open access: yesStatistics in Medicine, 2020
When the number of baseline covariates whose imbalance needs to be controlled in a sequential randomized controlled trial is large, minimization is the most commonly used method for randomizing treatment assignments. The lack of allocation randomness associated with the minimization method has been the source of controversy, and the need to reduce even
