Correlation of the differential expression of PIK3R1 and its spliced variant, p55α, in pan‐cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PIK3R1 undergoes alternative splicing to generate the isoforms, p85α and p55α. By combining large patient datasets with laboratory experiments, we show that PIK3R1 spliced variants shape cancer behavior. While tumors lose the protective p85α isoform, p55α is overexpressed, changes linked to poorer survival and more pronounced in African American ...

Thermal behavior of parasitic resistances of polycrystalline silicon solar cells

open access: yesRevue des Énergies Renouvelables, 2013
In this work, we investigate the influence of temperature on the series and shunt resistances of polycrystalline silicon solar cells and then to determine the specific expressions of both parasitic resistances as function of temperature.

Control of grain size in sublimation-grown CdTe, and the improvement in performance of devices with systematically increased grain size [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A method to control the grain size of CdTe thin films deposited by close space sublimation using chamber pressure is demonstrated. Grain diameter is shown to increase in the pressure range 2–200 Torr, following the linear relationship D (?m)=0.027×P ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Inductance and resistance calculations for isolated conductors

open access: yes, 2005
In this review paper we present various analytical and numerical calculations for computing the high frequency and low frequency inductance and resistance of isolated conductors.

Impact of temperature on the pullout of reinforcing geotextiles from unsaturated silt [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
This study investigates the thermal soil-geosynthetic interaction mechanisms of reinforcing geotextiles confined in compacted silt that may be encountered when using mechanically-stabilized earth (MSE) walls as geothermal heat sinks.

Correction for Series Resistance in A.C. Polarography

open access: yesReview of Polarography, 1971
Abstract : The apparent or measured series resistance of an electrochemical cell is influenced by the geometry of the electrodes. At a dropping mercury electrode, the resistance increases as the frequency of the measuring signal decreases. The question arises as to how to correct for the series resistance when calculations are made of the faradaic ...

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.
