A universal vaccine for serogroup B meningococcus. [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2006
Meningitis and sepsis caused by serogroup B meningococcus are two severe diseases that still cause significant mortality. To date there is no universal vaccine that prevents these diseases.

Neisseria meningitidis Serogroup W, Burkina Faso, 2012

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2014
In 2010, Burkina Faso became the first country to introduce meningococcal serogroup A conjugate vaccine (PsA-TT). During 2012, Burkina Faso reported increases in Neisseria meningitidis serogroup W, raising questions about whether these cases were a ...

Serogrouping Neisseria gonorrhoeae: correlation of coagglutination serogroup WII with homosexually acquired infection. [PDF]

open access: bronzeSexually Transmitted Infections, 1984
With coagglutination reagents prepared against W antigens, 205 clinical isolates of Neisseria gonorrhoeae were classified into three serogroups WI, WII, and WIII. Of 195 strains isolated from patients who acquired their infection in the Edinburgh area, 85 (44%) belonged to serogroup WI and 110 (56%) to serogroup WII.

New serogroup of Legionella pneumophila, serogroup 8 [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 1983
A strain of Legionella pneumophila (designated Concord 3) was isolated from a postmortem lung specimen of a patient with pneumonia. Direct fluorescent-antibody and immunoelectrophoresis tests, using absorbed and unabsorbed reagents prepared to this and other strains of legionellae, indicated that the Concord 3 strain represents a new serogroup of L ...

Serogroup F, a new capsule serogroup of Pasteurella multocida [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 1987
Four capsule serogroups (A, B, D, and E) have been described by using passive hemagglutination tests. Serogroups A and D predominant in pasteurelloses of avian species. A new capsule serogroup of Pasteurella multocida has been isolated from turkeys in Arkansas, California, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, New Jersey, and Virginia.

The elusive meningococcal meningitis serogroup: a systematic review of serogroup B epidemiology [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases, 2010
Invasive meningococcal disease (IMD), is a widely distributed, complex human disease affecting all age categories. The causative agent, Neisseria meningitidis, is spread through aerosol respiratory droplets. 13 different serogroups have been identified, each with varying epidemiological features including prevalence, virulence, immunogenicity ...

Serogrouping of Rhodococcus equi [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobiology and Immunology, 1983
AbstractThe serological relationships among 27 isolates of Rhodococcus equi selected from a total of 1,195 isolates were investigated by cross‐agglutination and absorption tests. The presence of capsular material was demonstrated in all the 27 isolates by electron microscopic observation.

Identification of streptococci: serogrouping by immunofluorescence [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 1975
This paper deals with the fluorescent antibody (FA) method for identifying six commonly occuring and two rare groups of streptococci by using commercially prepared (Difco) conjugates. We have shown that group-specific FA produced frequent cross-reactions with heterologous groups of organisms.

The Serogroup B Meningococcal Vaccine Bexsero Elicits Antibodies to Neisseria gonorrhoeae

open access: yesClinical Infectious Diseases, 2018
Background Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Neisseria meningitidis are closely-related bacteria that cause a significant global burden of disease. Control of gonorrhoea is becoming increasingly difficult, due to widespread antibiotic resistance.
