Variation in the prevalence of enteropathogenic Yersinia in slaughter pigs from Belgium, Italy, and Spain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Tonsils of 829 fattening pigs originating from Belgium (n = 201), Italy (n = 428), and Spain (n 200) were collected between 2005 and 2007 to study the prevalence of enteropathogenic Yersinia in slaughter pigs.

Restoration of SIRT3 Expression in Aged Mice Alleviates UUO‐Induced Renal Fibrosis by Reducing GSK‐3β Hyperacetylation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
SIRT3 expression is significantly downregulated in the aged kidney, rendering the kidney more vulnerable to fibrotic changes in obstructive nephropathy. By promoting GSK‐3β deacetylation, SIRT3 indirectly inhibits Wnt/β‐catenin signaling, thereby suppressing renal fibrosis.

Detection and serotyping of pneumococci in community acquired pneumonia patients without culture using blood and urine samples

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases, 2015

Diversity of O Antigens within the Genus Cronobacter: from Disorder to Order [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Cronobacter species are Gram-negative opportunistic pathogens that can cause serious infections in neonates. The lipopolysaccharides (LPSs) that form part of the outer membrane of such bacteria are possibly related to the virulence of particular ...

Pigment Epithelium‐Derived Factor Deficiency Impairs Hippocampal Glutamate Homeostasis and Cognitive Function by Downregulating Astrocytic GLT‐1

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The chronic glutamate‐induced excitotoxicity hypothesis has profoundly informed the therapeutic strategies employed in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). This study shows pigment epithelium‐derived factor (PEDF) regulates astrocytic glutamate transporter‐1 (GLT‐1)‐mediated glutamate homeostasis and cognition. Reduced PEDF correlates with lower Mini‐Mental State

Serotyping of Acinetobacter calcoaceticus. [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Pathology, 1984
Serotyping of Acinetobacter calcoaceticus by direct immunofluorescence and a capsule swelling reaction is described. One hundred isolates, including 12 from an outbreak in a neonatal department, were studied. Ninety five per cent of the isolates were typable by immunofluorescence and could be divided into 30 separate types, but 42.1% of typable strains,

Intestinal Epithelial‐Derived USP13 Alleviates Colonic Inflammation by Suppressing GRP78‐mediated Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
USP13 deficiency in intestinal epithelial cells aggravates DSS‐induced colitis by enhancing ER stress and apoptosis. USP13 interacts with GRP78 and reduces its K63‐linked ubiquitination to alleviate epithelial injury. Restoring USP13 expression or targeting the USP13‐GRP78 axis may represent a promising strategy for treating inflammatory bowel disease ...

Haemophilus influenzae Invasive Infections in Children in Vaccine Era: Phenotypic and Genotypic Characterization Tunis, Tunisia

open access: yesMicroorganisms
The changing epidemiological profile of invasive Haemophilus influenzae infections (IIHi) is noted in the post-vaccination era. The aim of this study was to characterize phenotypically and genotypically invasive Haemophilus influenzae (Hi) isolates ...
