The Effect of Silk Nanofibrous Scaffold and Co-Culture with Sertoli Cells on Spermatogonial Stem Cell Proliferation

open access: yesMajallah-i Dānishgāh-i ̒Ulūm-i Pizishkī-i Bābul, 2021
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: In vitro proliferation and maintenance of spermatogonial stem cells is one of the treatment options for infertile men. Creating a suitable microenvironment similar to the natural conditions of reproduction of these cells leads ...

Androgen-induced rhox homeobox genes modulate the expression of AR-regulated genes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Rhox5, the founding member of the reproductive homeobox on the X chromosome (Rhox) gene cluster, encodes a homeodomain-containing transcription factor that is selectively expressed in Sertoli cells, where it promotes the survival of male germ cells ...

Effect of FSH on testicular morphology and spermatogenesis in gonadotrophin-deficient hypogonadal mice lacking androgen receptors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and androgen act to stimulate and maintain spermatogenesis. FSH acts directly on the Sertoli cells to stimulate germ cell number and acts indirectly to increase androgen production by the Leydig cells.

miR-202-3p Regulates Sertoli Cell Proliferation, Synthesis Function, and Apoptosis by Targeting LRP6 and Cyclin D1 of Wnt/β-Catenin Signaling

open access: yesMolecular Therapy: Nucleic Acids, 2019
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play important roles in mammalian spermatogenesis, which is highly dependent on Sertoli cells. However, the functions and mechanisms of miRNAs in regulating human Sertoli cells remain largely unknown.

A Unique Cytoplasmic Marker for Extratesticular Sertoli Cells

open access: yesCell Transplantation, 2002
In the absence of a definitive cell marker for testis-derived Sertoli cells, their identification in cell culture or in Sertoli cell-facilitated cell transplantation protocols is difficult and limits the creditable evaluation of experimental results ...

THE EFFECT OF PREDNISONE ON SERTOLI CELL OF CONTRALATERAL TESTICULAR TORSION

open access: yesJurnal Urologi Indonesia, 2012
Objective: To evaluate the effect of prednisone in unilateral testicular torsion on Sertoli cell quality of contralateral testis. Material & Method: Thirty Wistar rats were divided into three groups i.e.

Icariin Improves Age-Related Testicular Dysfunction by Alleviating Sertoli Cell Injury via Upregulation of the ERα/Nrf2-Signaling Pathway

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2020
Sertoli cells play crucial roles in spermatogenesis and are impaired by aging. Icariin, a flavonoid from Epimedium, has been reported to exhibit anti-aging effects and improve testicular dysfunction in the clinical setting.

RNF20 is required for male fertility through regulation of H2B ubiquitination in the Sertoli cells

open access: yesCell & Bioscience, 2023
Background Spermatogenesis depends on the supporting of the Sertoli cells and their communications with germ cells. However, the regulation of crosstalk between the Sertoli cells and germ cells remains unclear. Results In this report, we used conditional

Androblastoma—Sertoli Cell Tumor

open access: yesJournal of Urology, 1974
An androblastoma in an undescended testicle of a 43 yr old man is reported. Microscopically, the tumor showed zones of neoplastic cells varying in size and shape and separated by fibrous tissue. In some areas the cells were round with eosinophilic cytoplasm and round nuclei. No mitoses were seen.

Contribution of recent transgenic models and transcriptional profiling studies to our understanding of the mechanisms by which androgens control spermatogenesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
: Androgens play a key role in the control of spermatogenesis and interference with their intratesticular secretion and action is a critical element in many contraceptive strategies.
