Spin labeling -- electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy study of temperature and salt dependent serum albumin stability [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Electron paramagnetic resonance signal parameters of TEMPO dichlorotriazine and TEMPO maleimide spin labels attached to protein human serum albumin molecules have been monitored at various temperatures, salts and sucrose concentrations. The method for measuring the correlation time of the protein rotational dynamics using viscosity isotherms was ...

Slow and remanent electric polarization of adsorbed BSA layer evidenced by neutron reflection [PDF]

open access: yesSoft Matter, 2012,8, 2638-2643, 2011
Using neutron reflectivity together with an appropriate electrochemical cell, we have studied the effects of transverse electric field on the Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) monolayer initially adsorbed at the interface of the aqueous solution and a conductive doped-silicon wafer. Depending on the sign of the initial potential, a second layer is adsorbed on

Critical appraisal of the role of serum albumin in cardiovascular disease

open access: yesBiomarker Research, 2017
Concentration of serum albumin (SA), a multifunctional circulatory protein, is influenced by several factors, including its synthesis rate, catabolism rate, extravascular distribution, and exogenous loss.

Taurine promotes glucagon‐like peptide‐1 secretion in enteroendocrine L cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Taurine, a sulfur‐containing amino acid, is likely taken up by enteroendocrine L cells via the taurine transporter. This process increases the levels of cytosolic ATP. The increase in intracellular Ca2+ concentrations and glucagon‐like peptide‐1 secretion through membrane depolarization is caused by the closure of ATP‐sensitive potassium channels ...

Potential value of serum prealbumin and serum albumin in the identification of postoperative delirium in patients undergoing knee/hip replacement: an observational study and internal validation study

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology
BackgroundPostoperative delirium (POD) is a common postoperative neurological complication that can lead to a variety of postoperative complications. At present, the pathogenesis of POD is unclear.

Refining the NaV1.7 pharmacophore of a class of venom‐derived peptide inhibitors via a combination of in silico screening and rational engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Venom peptides have shown promise in treating pain. Our study uses computer screening to identify a peptide that targets a sodium channel (NaV1.7) linked to chronic pain. We produced the peptide in the laboratory and refined its design, advancing the search for innovative pain therapies.

Inflammation and dietary protein intake exert competing effects on serum albumin and creatinine in hemodialysis patients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Inflammation and dietary protein intake exert competing effects on serum albumin and creatinine in hemodialysis patients.BackgroundCross-sectional studies have shown an inverse correlation between serum C-reactive protein (CRP) and serum albumin ...

Age and sex variation in serum albumin concentration: an observational study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical Biochemistry, 2016
Background In the UK, a common reference interval for serum albumin is widely used irrespective of age or sex. Implicit in this is that laboratories produce analytically similar results. This paper challenges the validity of this approach.

Flow‐based immunomagnetic enrichment of circulating tumor cells from diagnostic leukapheresis product

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The number of circulating tumor cells obtained from prostate cancer patients was increased approximately 5‐fold compared to regular CellSearch when processing 2 mL diagnostic leukapheresis material aliquots and increased by 44‐fold when processing 20 mL DLA aliquots using the flow enrichment target capture Halbach‐array.
