Expression of COL6A1 in Tumor Matrix of Cholangiocarcinoma and Its Mechanism of Tumor Progression

open access: yesCancer Reports, Volume 9, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA), a malignant tumor originating from the bile duct epithelial cells, is characterized by aggressive invasion and poor prognosis. Abnormal remodeling of the tumor microenvironment plays a pivotal role in its disease progression.

Phthalate Metabolite, Mono(2‐Ethyl‐5‐Hydroxyhexyl) Phthalate (MEHHP), Promotes Uterine‐Fibroid–Associated Phenotypes in Myometrial Stem Cell‐Derived 3D Organoids

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, Volume 41, Issue 10, Page 975-997, October 2026.
ABSTRACT This study investigates how phthalate exposure contributes to uterine fibroid (UF) development by studying the effects of the Mono‐(2‐ethyl‐5‐hydroxyhexyl) phthalate (MEHHP), a metabolite of Di(2‐ethylhexyl) phthalate, on myometrial stem cells (MMSCs).

Vitamins and Chronic Wounds: How Altered Pharmacokinetics and Comorbidities Contribute to Vitamin Deficiencies

open access: yesBasic &Clinical Pharmacology &Toxicology, Volume 139, Issue 4, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Wound healing is complex and requires adequate amounts of macro‐ and micronutrients. When wound healing is delayed, a wound is considered chronic. Increasing evidence shows that vitamin deficiencies are prevalent in patients with chronic wounds, yet intervention studies with vitamin supplementation yielded inconsistent effects.

Targeting the miR‐224‐5p/PTEN pathway: A previously under‐characterized strategy to attenuate mesangial cell injury and predict prognosis in diabetic nephropathy

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, Volume 17, Issue 10, Page 1744-1758, October 2026.
Serum miR‐224‐5p levels are progressively elevated in diabetic nephropathy (DN) and serve as an independent predictor of a decline in eGFR of ≥30% over 2 years. Mechanistically, miR‐224‐5p directly targets PTEN 3’‐UTR, suppressing PTEN and the activation of the AKT pathway in high‐glucose‐stimulated mesangial cells.

Kidney outcomes are altered by preconception weight modulation in rodent mothers with obesity

open access: yesScientific Reports
Obesity increases the risk of chronic kidney disease. We have previously demonstrated the benefits of preconception maternal weight loss on fertility and pregnancy outcomes in a mouse model of maternal obesity.

Dermal and epidermal cell functions in the growth and regeneration of hair follicles and other skin appendages [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Epithelial-mesenchymal interactions are central to the development of skin and skin appendages in vertebrates. These interactions continue throughout adult life and underpin the cyclic growth and loss of hair in mammals. While the molecular basis of such
